SYTYCD Sends Home Raven and Jamie 6/12/08

Bottom 3 Couples Dance For Their Lives On
So You Think You Can Dance
FOX Thursday 9/8c 6/12/08

The first night of eliminations on SYTYCD was somewhat surprising to the judges. Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and Dan Karaty have made it overwhelmingly clear that they are in love with William Wingfield (protege of Debbie Allen). The home audience, however, not so much.

The 3 couples with the lowest phone-in votes from the public had to dance for their lives in solo format tonight. Those couples were: Jamie B. and Raven A. (danced HipHop last night), Kourtni L. and Matt D., and William W. and Jessica K. (Tango).

The judges were absolutely mortified that William and partner Jessica were in the bottom 3. Dan Karaty even stated, "we were too easy on some of the couples last night, but not you two. You guys were great last night."

Not! It bordered on the worst Tango that I have ever seen by professional dancers. It was really more like something that you would see on Dancing With the Stars. They smiled and grinned through the entire performance, the Tango should be very serious. Jessica acted like she has never worn high heels before, wobbling throughout the dance. William almost dropped her in the final lift. There was really not much good about it.

Matt D. and Kourtni L. did not have a great performance, but the choreography seemed simple and kind of boring. It was a Mandy Moore piece, and not a good one.

Jamie B. and Raven A. did have the weakest overall dance last night. It was a HipHop wanna-be performance in which Raven pulled down Jamie's pants and almost his tighty-whiteys. Nigel commented that it may have offended some people, but they don't choreograph the number.

In the end Jamie B. and Raven A. were the weakest in their solos tonight and that was the last straw for the judges. Raven A. stood smiling ear to ear at the end like she had just won her first Tony Award, while Jamie was almost in tears. It was kind of odd.

It will only get tougher for Nigel Lythgoe and the rest of the judges on So You Think You Can Dance from here, but hopefully they will learn to restrain their love affair with William Wingfield and let the other dancers have a chance.

Stay tuned for the videos as they become available!

Here they are, enjoy!
