SYTYCD Season 5: Karla and Vitolio get eliminated

The Quick Step proved to be the continued 'kiss of death' for dancers Karla and Vitolio on SYTYCD this week. No matter how much Vitolio said it would be their 'kiss of joy'.

The surprise of the night was more that Phillip Chbeeb and partner Jeanine found themselves in the bottom 3 for the first time. Not surprising in conjunction with Phillips limited dance instruction and often 'clunkiness', but I thought he had a larger following. I hated the hip hop 'chain' performance and think Mia Michaels got it completely correct. Our eyes were solely focused on the chain throughout the perfomance and the choreography was bound by it.

With only 6 couples left on SYTYCD Season 5, it's still impossible to pick a winner or even a clear leader.

Here are the highlights from last night's episode:

Desmond Richardson and Patricia Hachey

SYTYCD Season 5: Top 7 Couples Dance

Mia Michaels joined the judges panel tonight on SYTYCD stage.

Here is how the night went down:

Janette & Brandon: Cha Cha (Jean Marc G.) Music: "Hush Hush; Hush Hush" by The Pussy Cat Dolls
This was a fast paced routine, looked a little more like a disco. Brandon sang throughout the song, annoying. It was good, but I hope tonight gets better. Brandon did well with his footwork, the only part that looked like a Cha Cha.

Nigel Lythgoe: "...the best damn Cha Cha I have ever seen on this show ever... "

Mary Murphy: "... I hear a train coming... you 2 have 2 tickets on the hot tamale train..."

Mia Michaels: "... I know I have scared the bleep out of you Brandon... you have so much potential... you're gonna love me and hate me on this journey... Janette you've been on fire since day one..."

Kayla & Kupono: Contemporary (by Sonya Tayeh) Music: "Eyes On Fire" by Blue Foundation
The story of life and death in the vampire world. I liked the music the most. I just don't get any feeling from these two. Maybe it was better for the judges.

Nigel Lythgoe: "... the inspiration for Sonya was absolutely fabulous... Kupono you are a new man up there this week... I thought it was absolutely fabulous... there was so much technique..."

Mary Murphy: "...these two are alive and kicking... I think Sonya did a brilliant job of playing to your strengths... you're staying on the hot tamale train..."

Mia Michaels: "... you're a stunning couple... Sonya, for me this was your best piece ever on the show... amazing..."

Randi & Evan: Broadway (Joey Dowling) Music: Richman's Frug
This is made for Evan, he dances like he was born on Broadway.
Maybe I'm just in a bad mood tonight, but this was boring too. I have no idea what it was about. They looked good together.

Nigel Lythgoe: "... a great homage to Bob Fossi... I thought Randi, that you did very well... Evan, you have to bring a little more to the party..."

Mary Murphy: "...I think most of the time you got the character really well... it was entertaining..."

Mia Michaels: "... the choreography was there... you guys didn't take it to that level... Randi, it was a little heavy for me... Evan, I expect more from you..."

Caitlyn & Jason: Jazz (Brian Freidman) Music: "Creator" by Santigor
So it was a hip hop routine. Surprisingly much better than the couple's actual hip hop routine that was an epic fail. I really liked it. Hopefully they won't fall to the bottom 3 again.

Nigel Lythgoe:"... it was very weird.... you have to commit to it 100% and I think you both did that... I'm not sure about the costume... It looks like a dancing condom." Cat Deeley, "Safety first, Nigel."

Mary Murphy: "... I didn't think it played to your strengths... it just doesn't sit right with me... I love the two of you..."

Mia Michaels: ".... it's kind of refreshing a little, to go out there and just have fun... I don't like the tin foil (on the costume)..."

Jeanine & Phillip: Hip Hop (Napoleon & Tabitha) Music: Love Lockdown by Kanye West
Chained together for the routine... it was a great idea. In places it worked well. In others it did not. No way to say Phillip did not do his part and Jeanine did pretty well to keep up. The chain was in the way for me.

Nigel Lythgoe: "...you should be chained together for life... "

Marry Murphy: "... I thought it was so incredibly creative... you guys really brought it on..."

Mia Michaels: "... I found myself getting caught up in the 'chainography'... it takes away from the hard hitting..." EXACTLY!!!
Jeanine said they "had been living with the chain". Phillip grabbed the mike to say, "she made a mistake right there!" The two are not 'living' together.

Melissa & Ade: Ballet (Thordall Christienson) Music: "Romeo & Juliet"
A Romeo and Juliet routine from Melissa, a true ballerina. She looked stunning as usual. Ade looked more contemporary, but evendentally that is allowed now. It was ok.

Nigel Lythgoe: "... it was beautifully danced... Ade, your footwork could be a little better, but your carriage and everthing else was great... thank you so much..."

Mary Murphy: "... I just loved it... the chemistry was just flawless..."

Mia Michaels: "... I am so excited to be celebrating classical dance on this program... I love that it's a black and white Romeo and Juliet... you can't fake classical ballet..."

Karla & Vitolio: Quick Step (Jean Marc G.) Music: "Puttin' On the Ritz" by Rufus Wainright
Finally a dance that is choreographed to it's name from start to finish. I love to watch the Quick Step and this was a good one.

Nigel Lythgoe: "... there were so many good things about that... it was really entertaining..."

Mary Murphy: "...they brought the whole thing alive... it was really well done..."

Mia Michaels: "... Jean Marc is a genius... it's amazing what a choreographor can do for dancers... I was surprised... "

Well overall it was much better than last week on SYTYCD. This season has yet to live up to SYTYCD Season 4. That group was just amazing. Phillip Chbeeb continues to impress me, I hope he stays in for a while. No clear leader yet.

So You Think You Can Dance unfurled the curtain on Nigel Lythgoe's newest endeavor in the dance world. A charitable foundation for under privileged dancers. Check it out at:

Katie Holmes will dance on the 100th episode of SYTYCD on July 23rd.

SYTYCD Season 5 Elimination night: 6/25/2009

Tonight we will lose 2 more hopefuls on So You Think You Can Dance. Nigel Lythgoe started the show with a commentary on the entertainment loss this week of Ed McMahon and today; Farrah Faucett and Michael Jackson.

The loss of Michael Jackson will weigh heavy on the dance world.

"I don't know how you begin... he changed the world.... this is a life to celebrate."

Then a small clip of the "Thriller" video was shown.

Asuka and Vitolio were up first for the results, and were sent to the bottom 3.

Jeanette and Brandon were up next, and were proclaimed safe.

Randi and Evan followed... they too were safe...not sure why.

Jeanine and Phillip were up, and sent through to the next round.

Melissa and Ade stood last on the stage with Cat Deeley. These two were also safe.

Karla and Jonathan stood next. After the worst performance last night, the couple was put in the bottom 3. Nigel offered bets to the audience last night that they would land there.

Caitlyn and Jason did not have a good night last night (no one did, really). The audience agreed and they are in the bottom 3.

Kayla and Kupono did an alright job last night. They were safe.

Asuka and Vitolio had really bad solos. Asuka did not do anything but run fingers through her hair, and Vitolio looked frantic.

Karla and Jonathan did better with their own choreography. I especially liked Karla's solo. Jonathan at least had a theme.

Caitlyn and Jason both gave the best solos of the night. I'm not fond of them as a couple, but both can definitely dance. (Of course they all can on this show)

After the solos:

The judges were unanimous with their decision on the girls. Caitlyn was told she had the best solo, and that she is safe. Karla seemed desperate in her solo. Asuka was praised for being exciting, but they said she is not growing in the competition (I completely agree, but am shocked).

Asuka is the first dancer to go home tonight.

The judges were not unanimous with the guys. Vitolio and Johnathan were told they cannot continue to fall into the bottom 3. Jason was told his solo was "full of desperation", but he was sent to safety. Nigel told both remaining guys that they were not strong enough. Vitolio was saved (of course) and

Jonathan was the second dancer sent home tonight.

So there you have it for another week. We are down to the Top 6 couples already for SYTYCD Season 5.

On Monday at 8/7c FOX will rebroadcast the American Idol Season 8 Michael Jackson theme night.

SYTYCD Week 3: 6/24/2009

First up tonight on SYTYCD is:

Karla & Jonathan: Hip Hop (by Dave Scott) Music: "By My Side" by Jadakiss/Neyo
This was not good at all. Jonathan was not nearly gangsta enough. It was a thoroughly boring show opener. There was no connection between the dancers at all. Nigel Lythgoe really let them have it for the bubble gum routine. Nigel offered bets to the audience that they would be in the bottom 3.

1-888-TEMPO 01

Asuka & Vitolio: Jazz (by Mandy Moore) Music: "Heartbreaker" by Pat Benetar
I did not think it could get much worse after the slow opener. I was sadly mistaken. This was the worst routine I've seen on SYTYCD. Even the ending was off by seconds. This was just not good at all. Nigel Lythgoe really liked it for some reason. Mary Murphy finally called the couple on their timing issues throughout the performance.

1-888-TEMPO 02

Ade & Melissa: Rumba (by Tony Meredith) Music: "Emotion" by Destiny's Child
Melissa had on a very weird dress, that was really more distracting. The routine seemed to stop and go in a jerky fashion. Not smooth at all. Nigel loved this routine too saying, "What a difference Ade makes."

1-888-TEMPO 03

Jeanette & Brandon: Hip Hop (by Dave Scott) Music: "What a World" by Common
At last we got some action. The routine started slow, but really hit a stride in the middle. Brandon Bryant can dance! He did the walk-up like last year's SYTYCD winner Joshua, not quite as strong. Nigel was impressed with Brandon's hip hop, coming from contemporary.

1-888-TEMPO 04

Kayla & Kupono: Veinese Waltz (by Jeane Marc) Music: "Sweet Dreams For You" by Jewel
The new couple have a good look together. Kupono worried in rehearsal that he lacked the upper body strength for the lifts. It looked good. Not great, but not bad. Nigel Lythgoe showed his appreciation for the fluidity of the movement, but said that the dance will not make a crowd cheer.

1-888-TEMPO 05

Randi & Evan: Contemporary (by Mia Michaels) Music: "Koop Island Blues" by Koop
This was too simple. It was boring. It was jazz. Randi followed the rest of the ladies with almost nothing on. Nigel Lythgoe loved it and really really loved Randi's butt.................... Mary Murphy also enjoyed the dance immensely and screamed to deafen Nigel.

1-888-TEMPO 06

Caitlyn & Jason: Pasa Doble (by Jean Marc) Music: O' Fortuna
Jason did not do well staying in character. Caitlyn, not so much either. The steps did not look slean at all. The timing was slightly off. The dance looked slow to the commanding music. Nigel Lythgoe said the two did not connect well, and he was absolutely right. There was no eye contact between the two. Mary Murphy commented on Jason losing his shoulder strength.

1-888-TEMPO 07

Jeanine & Phillip: Broadway (by Tyce Diorio) Music: Moses
Now this was a fun Broadway routine. Finally a routine that was choreographed to the style they drew. Phillip Chbeeb jumped a 6.5 ft couch (and split his pants during the routine). Nigel Lythgoe noticed Phillip's 'air conditioning'. He then told Phillip that it was time to grow, but Jeanine was on fire. It was a fun routine.

1-888-TEMPO 08

Well that was a less than stellar night for SYTYCD. I think Karla and Jonathan are in trouble tomorrow night. Based on tonight though, anything can happen, no one was hugely impressive. My favorite of the night was the hip hop of Jeanette and Brandon. Jeanine and Phillip closed the show well too.

Elimination Night on SYTYCD Season 5 Who Goes Home?

The soloist tonight on SYTYCD were:
Jonathan, Karla, Asuka, Vitolio, Paris and Tony. I think Paris and Tony are in the greatest danger of leaving.

I think this was completely correct based on last night's performances. The 6 dancers will now dance a 30 second solo, but the judges have likely made up their minds.

Karla had an extremely strong solo and was the first sent back safe for next week.
Asuka is safe as the judges love her.
Paris, though giving a strong solo tonight (Nigel said it was weak), did not do enough to stay. She was the first elimination of SYTYCD Season 5.

Nigel took all of the male dancers to task for having weak solos tonight.
Vitollio was first told he was safe.
Jonathan was finally told he was safe.
Tony is the second dancer to leave SYTYCD Season 5.
Going home tonight are:
Paris and Tony

SYTYCD Season 5 Top 20: First Night of Live Dancing

It's finally time for the top 20 to dance live on Season 5 of SYTYCD. As Kat Deeley named them off, the talent is so clear already, I never know how the judges whittle it down.

Ashley
Ade
Asuka
Brandon
Caitlyn
Evan
Janette
Jason
Jeanine
Jonathan
Karla
Kupono
Kayla
Max
Melissa
Phillip
Paris
Tony
Randi
Vitolio

Paired up first was:

(01) Jeanine and Phillip (dancing to "Mad" Ne-Yo)

Hip Hop routine choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon
It was a very cute bubblegum hip hop routine, focusing on Phillip's ability to just be amazing. Jeanine started popping very well, it got weaker throughout the performance, but Phillip popped that much harder.
Adam Shankman: "...that was just amazing..."
Mary Murphy: "...I was a little worried about your chemistry, but you gave us a chemistry lesson..."
Nigel Lythgoe: "... Phillip you have a following... Jeanine I think you held your own..."

(02) Osuka and Vitolio (dancing to "Hot Honey Rag" from Chicago)

choreographed by Tyce Diorio
A theatrical jazz routine showing off Vitolio's leaping skills, very impressive. Osuka, not as much for me.
Adam Shankman: "...it felt a little more artificial.... what was apparent is that you are both incredible dancers...."
Mary Murphy: "...I am left a little disappointed... you both played it safe..."
Nigel Lythgoe: "... choreography can only do so much, but you've got to bring yourself to the party...and you didn't tonight..."

(03) Karla and Jonathan (dancing to "Poker Face" by Lady Gaga)
Cha Cha choreographed by Tony Merridan
Well, Jonathan is just plain ...HOT. The dance was very hot too.
Adam Shankman: "... I thought that was really good... you just (beeped) me up..."
Mary Murphy: SCREEM "... I love my Cha Cha rough....if it's not rough it's not fun..."
Nigel Lythgoe: "...you too just exploded onto the stage...it was exciting..."

(04) Randi and Evan (dancing to "I Only Have Eyes for You" by Jamie Cullem)

Jazz choreographed by Tyce Diorio
It was a pretty dance under blue lights. I would not have guessed it as jazz, more like contemporary. Fine with me. It was not fantastic, but still good.
Adam Shankman: "... you're slightly vertically challenged as a couple...you danced like you were 8ft tall... Evan no one saw you coming..."
Mary Murphy: "...the stars have just come out tonight... that was just smoldering..." SCREAMS
Nigel Lythgoe: "... you were absolutely fantastic tonight... this is one of Tyce's best routines, but it was your control of it..."

(05) Paris and Tony (dancing to "Boyz Noize" by )

Hip Hop choreographed by Tabitha & Napoleon
Well it was supposed to be stank hip hop, but they can't quite pull it off. Not even close. The pops were not good at all.
Adam Shankman: "... I thought it was really good..."
Mary Murphy: "... I expected you to just be in it... I think you're in trouble right now..."
Nigel Lythgoe: "... I don't think it was memorable... the two of you were doing steps...it's not real..."

(06) Caitlyn and Jason (dancing to "Jai Ho" from Slumdog Millionaire)

Bollywood choreographed by Nicul.....sorry
This is the fastest dance the contestants will do. The two got out of sync more than once. Caitlyn was better with Jason looking to her a few times. But Jason hand signals were better.
Adam Shankman: "...you made it look simple... great great job..."
Mary Murphy: "...I'm glad that Bollywood came to Hollywood... "
Nigel Lythgoe: "... you brought it tonight... that was beautiful to see..."

(07) Janette and Brandon (dancing to "Come Fly With Me" by Michael Buble)
Fox Trot choreographed by Louie Van Amstel
The couple looked gorgeous dancing together. Once they settled in, it was a great dance. I was impressed with Brandon's 'coolness'. The spin at the end...amazing.
Adam Shankman: "... it was lovely... it really was beautiful..."
Mary Murphy: "...I can't give it (an eyebrow) anymore because of botox... Janette you were Ginger Rodgers up there..."
Nigel Lythgoe: "... good luck to the both of you, I thought it was a wonderful routine..."

(08) Ashley and Kupono (dancing to "
Jazz choreographed by Wade Robson
As two crash-test dummies. This was one of the weirdest routines ever. In full white makeup, it was just weird. But mesmerizing. So much so that I missed the song title and artist....
Adam Shankman: "... your technique was exquisite...Wade, you are one sick puppy..."
Mary Murphy: "... I bought it 100%... Ashley... I couldn't get my eyes off of you..."
Nigel Lythgoe: "... we're talking about a genius here in Wade Robson... I was in a completely different world..."

(09) Melissa and Ade (dancing to "Right Here Waiting" by Richard Marx)
Contemporary choreographed by Many Moore
I'm not too impressed with Mandy Moore's work yet. This was a beautiful dance, showing off Melissa's extensive training in ballet. Ade got to show off his power lifting as well. The timing of the low leaps was impeccable.
Adam Shankman: "...what we get to see every once in a while is special [chokes up]..."
Mary Murphy: "... [SCREAM] I feel like I've just been put through it... you can't deny training..."
Nigel Lythgoe: "... what a fantastic top 20 we have this season... this was a beautiful routine..."

(10) Kayla and Max (dancing to "Jumbah Day" by House of Gypsies)

Samba choreographed by Louie Van Amstel
This was a hot little number with Kayla dressed in hot pink. She actually did better than Max.
Adam Shankman: "...that was so good!... Max, you must be the luckiest man alive... only God could have created this girl in front of me..."
Mary Murphy: "... I can hear it [Nigel put on his headphones]... you are on the Hot Tamale Train..."
Nigel Lythgoe: "...that was truly sensational routine... you have topped an absolutely brilliant night..."

SYTYCD Season 5 Top 20

After a rough night of deep cuts last night, we finally have the SYTYCD Season 5 Top 20. It's so hard to see any of these talented people go home. It's been a vicious road to get this far. One thing is for sure, to get this close means full on practice for next year so you are ready.

Here we go:
1.Janette Manara
2.Kayla Rodomski
3.Carla Garcia
4.Caitlin Kinney
5.Jeanine Mason
6.Asuka Kondoh
7.Melissa Sandvig
8.Ashley Valero
9.Randi Strong-Evans
10.Paris Torres

1.Vitolio Jeune
2.Pono Aweau (ok, not even close to his full name)
3.Jonathan Platero
4.Brandon Bryant (barely, with a vote of 4-2)
5.Maksim Kapitannikov
6.Tony Bellissimo
7.Jason Glover
8.Philip Chbeeb
9.Evan Kasprzak
10.Ade Obayomi

Alex Wong, one of the most powerful dancers of the show was cut due to being under with the Miami Ballet Co. Alex was so upset, only because he hungers for more than ballet.

Apologies for any misspellings (hands travel faster than brains)!

SYTYCD Season 5: LA & Seattle

Tonight we start off in LA for the last (big) audition night of So You Think You Can Dance Season 5. With Joshua Allen in the audience tonight!

Leading off is:

Bianca Revels was back! She is an amazing tap dancer that made it all the way to the end of the auditions in Hollywood, but not to the top 20. I think she'll make it this year. All the judges are in love with Bianca Revels. They sent her straight to Vegas.

Brother and sister Xavier and Brynelle Blanton took the stage next... as a couple. Not that that is weird, but it was weird. The two hold hands everywhere they go. Neither was good. At all. They seemed very nice people though. No arguments or smart remarks for the judges...classy, and nice to see.

Debra Lawson started another parade of poor dancers. Nigel Lythgoe made a remark about her size. Please don't hound him for it. He was as politically correct as he could be. I thought he was fine.

Calico Sequiero(sp) gave a not so sparkling California Swing dance. The judges gave her the bad news and she took it like a big girl. Thanking them, guest judge Adam Shankman reassured Calico that he would dance with her. "Come on up," said Calico. Nigel Lythgoe approved the guest dance and it was worth every minute of air time. Calico certainly learned what a pro dance is all about.

Then Nigel called Adam to the mike for his critique. Katee Shean (season 4 third place) and last year's winner Joshua Allen came down for the critiques. Adam Shankman told Joshua, "...be careful, I put you through.." Adam got his ticket to Hollywood! Who woulda thunk it!

Asuka K. and Ricky Sun were up next. Asuka made it to the end of Hollywood last year, but was cut from the top 20. Both are excellent dancers. Ricky has improved a lot. The judges noticed Ricky's improvement. Asuka is gorgeous and both got tickets to Vegas.

Nathan Trasoras was the last man for day 1 in LA. What a great dancer this young man is. His spins are amazing. He reminded me of Travis. Nathan is only 17 and not eligible for the competition this year. Nigel gave him a ticket to Hollywood for Season 6. That ought to give him inspiration!

After choreography 20 dancers got their tickets to Vegas on Day 1.

Sonny Ramirez, a wrestler, kicked off Day 2 in LA. Popping and locking ...oh yeah. Sonny is awesome. Adam Shankman begged him to say he could dance other styles. All the judges agree that Sonny rocks. He has his one flare and shows every single lock...and does it smiling. He even involves his hairline. Off to choreography, hope he makes it.

Back the bad ones. Nothing to see here folks...keep moving.

Amanda Kerby took on the judges with a contemporary routine. She had a bit of a shaky start, then pulled it together. Amanda showed some beautiful lines and choreography. Nigel said he was lacking something from her, but he loves her beauty. Mary Murphy called her "drop dead gorgeous". Adam Shankman asked her about her dad (with MS) and told her to connect more with her emotions.

Philip Chbeeb showed up in the auditions this year...very, very cool. Philip went straight to Hollywood without even auditioning. He stuck around to dance with Arielle Coker. They did a contemporary/ hip hop routine. Philip just can't help it. It gave the judges a good gauge of his strength too. Nigel told Arielle Coker that she must be crazy dancing with him "you can't take your eyes off of him." All the judges agreed that she is good enough to go straight to Vegas.

Now we get to see just a glimpse of some more greatness. Come on producers we don't need the jokes, give these people more air time. I'll post as many videos as they release for the great auditions.

At the end of Day 2 in LA 21 dancers advance to Vegas.

On to Seattle!

Oh no, "Sex" is in Seattle.

Mia Michaels joined the judges panel for the final auditions.

Christopher Keller was first up with a partner dance. It was a mixture of several dance styles. Though not good dancers, it was kinda funny. Christopher should join a comedy group, his expressions are hilarious (and on purpose).

Nick Salsman "Nick Nasty" has some moves. He's a tattoo artist out of Oregon and he's bad... in a good way.The speed of his breaking and strength of his moves were great. He got out of sync and quit early. He said he ran out of energy. Sadly Nick has a bad attitude. Nigel told him he was disrespectful and he talked himself into a "no" from the judges. Nick apologized but it was too late.

And now for the waste of air time.... Day 1 in Seattle was not good at all.

Kelsea Taylor planned to take over (dancing to "Tore My Heart" by Oona). She had a weird little contemporary dance that was just weird enough to love. Nigel told her he did not want her to stop. All the judges loved Kelsea. Mia Michaels finally woke up calling her a "beautiful, disasterous weirdo".

From Day 1 in Seattle, only 4 contestants went to Vegas. Now that is a bad day.

Day 2 of the Seattle auditions promise more.

A Hawaiian dancer was up nex. He is awesome and Mia Michaels was mezmerized by him. He has a beautiful style, but he is feminine. All the judges compared him to Mark of Season 4. They sent him on to choreography.

David "Sex" Soller was back though, to ruin a good day in Seattle.

Leonid (something) from Kiev, Ukraine came to the audition with his made up style of dance. He claimed to be trained in ballroom and several other styles. It ain't happening. Nigel compared it to a rave party. Mia Michaels called for a battle between Leonid and Sex. Nigel approved the waist of time. Out of pure attrition, Nigel sent Sex on to choreography. Mary Murphy half-heatedly agreed, Mia opted out.

At the end of the competition auditions in Seattle 9 dancers moved on to Vegas.
A total of 169 dancers will join the SYTYCD choreographers in Las Vegas going for the Top 20.

Join us next week for Vegas baby!

I'll post all the videos as they become available!

SYTYCD Season 5: Week 2 Auditions Memphis & Miami

Here we go with live blogging for SYTYCD Season 5. Nigel Lythgoe promised (on Twitter) we would have to bear witness to one more audition by "Sex". This will definitely be the low light of the night. Why the producers let this guy on the air is beyond me.

Off to Miami first!

Day 1:
Tyce Diorio joined Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe in Miami.

Leading off is Tony Riendeax (not sure about the spelling), he is truly terrible. He said he dances like there are no bones in his body...well it was something like that. He calls it "Tony style". Nigel and Mary were unimpressed and told him it was bad. Tyce said it was "horrifyingly bad". In fact he said it was "ba a a a d". And we're off.

Prescilla Marrero was up next with a great contemporary routine. She has been dancing since she was 3, suffered an injury when she was 15 and came back strong. Mary Murphy called her "over the top wonderful". Tyce called her "stunningly beautiful". She earned her ticket to Vegas!

Jenette and Romula were up next, back from last year's tryouts. Jenette made it to Vegas last year, but got cut from the show. They have really improved and got a scream from Mary Murphy. Nigel Lythgoe loved the danger in their lifts. Straight to Vegas for them.

Jennifer and Jessisa Guadix, twin sisters from Miami. Tried to do a hip hop routine. It was not good. They were very flexible, but very poor dancers. Nigel said it was a nightmare halfway through. They knew they were not good, so that's a plus.

Time for a Tyce Diorio meltdown.

Joseph Smith showed up next to teach us all how to hip hop. It was a great audition. Joseph Smith brought us some new words "Sh-wham" "Sh-whiz-am". He gave all three judges his "sh-wham" as he got sent on to choreography.

Going through from day 1 in Miami: Joseph Smith and 17 others.

Day 2 in Miami

Starting again poorly, was Wislande. I'll have to find her last name somewhere.... or maybe not. It was bad, bad, bad. Mary Murphy deferred to Nigel Lythgoe for critiquing. Nigel let her have it, saying she danced like a little girl. She seemed to learn a bit of a lesson and reality check.

After another parade of tears, Eric "Silky" Moore took the SYTYCD audition stage. Tapping his heart out to "Thriller", he had a slow start. Then he pulled out all the stops throwing hip hop and break dancing. Silky admitted to tapping because his older brother was "getting a lot of girls from it". Silky Moore is one of the first tap dancers to go straight to Vegas.

Paris (Miss Washington) Torres took the stage next. It started a little weird, but really got good. She is gorgeous. Nigel thought it was "fabulous". Mary Murphy commented on her "beautiful legs". Tyce thought she was great too. Paris was given a ticket to Vegas.

Henry Rivera showed a partial audition that was incredible. We got just a glimpse of a few other contemporary dancers going straight to Vegas.

Geo Smith was an African dancer doing a traditional African dance. It was really not bad, but not a style the judges really 'get'. Wearing a feathered mask, he went straight for the judges. He was sent on to choreography.

Talia Rickards is a young widow that has not danced in two years. Her husband died in a motorcycle crash after a short four year marriage. You can see the potential in Talia. She had a few missteps and pulled her face a little (which annoys Nigel). Mary appreciated the fire in the dance. They sent her through to choreography, joining 19 others.

Going to Vegas from day 2 in Miami: Geo Smith, Talia Rickards and 12 others. A total of 32 dancers advance from Miami.

On to Memphis!

Day 1 in Memphis brought Lil C sitting in with the SYTYCD judges.

First up was a Memphis police officer. Marico Flake is a talented dancer. He is one of my favorites so far. He has insane footwork. Doing some 'Memphis Jukin', he had great facial expression the whole time. He got his golden ticket to Vegas.
(this is not his audition, but great just the same!)

Hip Hopper Dustin Dorough has a cousin in the Backstreet Boys... or so he says, but he's never met him. I don't think your cousin is going to be giving out any passes to you and your buddies Dustin. Nigel said the "hip hop community might be offended.." Dustin blamed his performance on having the flu... damn swine flu claimed another victim (dance!)

Another bad audition by Chris Corroza. Just sort of bouncing around on the stage with braids down to his butt. He developed his own style called 'electric', sort of like slam dancing from a rave dance. He told the judges he was ready to go home. He tried to walk off stage before Tyce got to say a word and Nigel called back. The war was on, Chris is a cocky arrogant person.

Caitlin Kinney followed her sister who has her ticket to Vegas already. Caitlin is gorgeous, and a truly gifted dancer. You could fell her emotion and the dance in ever move. She is so beautifully smooth. Nigel stopped her mid backbend and embarrassed her. She has only been dancing for 5 years, but was a gymnast before. She had hip reconstruction surgery, that's amazing. Mary Murphy called dancing "her destiny". Off to Vegas goes Caitlin to join her sister.

6 more dancers head to Vegas from Day 1 in Memphis after the choreography.

Day 2 in Memphis

Anna Dunn, an 18 yr old, told the story of her dad recently taking his own life. She said she doesn't have to talk about it, she can move about it. Nigel did not like the choreography, to much head movement. Mary Murphy like Anna too, but not the choreography. Lil C pressed Anna on the death of her father. he told her to connect with her pain to help ease it. On to choreography goes Anna Dunn.

Travis Prokop is from Texaco, New Mexico (which is just fun to say). Travis is effeminate and his dad it the head football coach. Opposite of any stereotypes, his father wholly supportive of his son. Nigel liked his size. His strength is lacking and Nigel said "get in there and throw some of those weight things around". Travis went on to choreography.

Brothers Evan and Ryan Kasprzack (spelling way off). Evan did a great jazz routine that lit up the stage and the audience. Lots of energy. Nigel called it superb and thought it was a beautifully structured routine. Evan got his ticket to Vegas.

Keeping the sibling thing going, twin sisters Lauren and Lydia. These two can dance. Not sure if they are identical, but close enough. They dance well together and both were sent to choreography.

Ryan, Evan's brother (see above) was up next with a tap routine...involving a whoopie cushion. Tap routines in general are love/hate, I can't imagine a prop like this helping. Oh my... I was wrong. I feared this and should not have. How much fun was that, with no music at all it was perfect. Ryan is definitely ready for Vegas and probably the top 20. Nigel wanted choreography, but Mary and Lil C sent Ryan on to Vegas.

15 dancers in total are moving on to Vegas from Memphis.

That's it for tonight folks! So You Think You Can Dance returns tomorrow night and so do I!

SYTYCD Season 5: Week 1 Auditions Brooklyn & Denver

FOX Thursday 8/7c 5/21/2009

Gabi Rojas led off the greatness of SYTYCD Season 5.

The judges gave Gabi a standing ovation. Looking like Debbi Allen, Nigel Lythgoe said it was one of the best auditions he'd seen in 5 years. Mixing performance with dance. He said he thought he would see Gabi in the top 20. Mary Murphy gave Gabi Rojas the first "Hot Tamale" scream. Gabi Rojas got her golden ticket straight to Hollywood.

Next up came a contortionist pair. Well one of them could "joint-tortion". The other thought he could dance, if he had "schmean" on his face (smeared make-up). It was ...weird. The were sent to choreography for pure "morbid curiousity".

Katherine Leach was up next. Another not ready for prime time player. Calling herself "Crazy" Kate, she lived up to her name... oh wait, she said it was because she was crazy about dancing...

Peter Sabasino (21, Philadephia, PA) came on the SYTYCD floor in tap shoes and clean up.

This was a great audition. He's a good looking guy too! "Your like a tap dancing boxer," said Nigel Lythgoe. "Great variety, great look...I'm not talking about the clothes..." said Mary. On this audition, Peter Sabasino made it straight through to Vegas.

The inspirational dance goes to Tiffany Giegel (23, Brooklyn, NY).

Born with a birth defect that left her with only 3 vertebrae, she still did pretty well. Nigel Lythgow gave her a real critique, as he always does for the serious ones. "The bravery you have to come on a show like this is stunning to me..." said Lythgoe.

Maksim K. (sorry, I'll learn the name if he makes the top 20).

Nigel Lythgoe really liked the performance, minus the winks. Mary enjoyed the ball room dancing. He was sent to the choreography.

We were only allowed the slightest glimpse of those who went straight to Vegas. It is gonna be great!

Time for what looked like another joke audition. Nabuya.... (again with the last name).

This guy was actually good. He looked like it was gonna be... not good. It was very surprising. Nigel Lythgoe seemed to enjoy it. "My fear is that you won't be able to do anything other than that... we'll see...". Mary really enjoyed the audition. As did Napoleon and Tabitha.

Making it out of choreography were: Maksim, Nabuya and 27 others (total) are going to Vegas from Brooklyn, NY auditions Day 1.

Arielle Taylor came back for a second try.

The young dancer went as far as Vegas and was cut. She was still in high school at the time. Nigel Lythgoe really likes her. Mary loves her. Arielle Taylor earned another ticket to Vegas.

Amanda Clark and her partner tried a dance called the Bolero. Not sure what it was supposed to look like. It left the judges speechless... not in a good way.

Nina and Igor were up next with a hot Latin routine. The twirl at the end was awesome. Nigel Lythgoe, "You could put wet clothes on and spin dry them!...I thought you were tremendous" Mary loved it, I knew she would. Tabitha and Napoleon enjoyed it as well. They were not sent through though, as many couples, they had to prove it in choreography.

Kellin Stancil was up next.

He was very good. Vry very good. You could feel his emotions. He just lost his aunt recently and told of how he danced for her. He is a very eloquent young man. The judges were moved. Nigel gave him his ticket to Vegas.

Chimezie Nwosu was the hip hopper of the night. Looking like Twitch from last year's SYTYCD. It was a snappy audition. Nigel said he liked him, but wanted to see him do other things. Leading to a choreography chance. Not yet as good as Twitch, but he may grow into it.

Going through from choreography were: Igor, Chimezie and 14 more from day 2 go on to Vegas.

Heading west to Denver, CO, the SYTYCD team were again hit with the good the bad and the weird.

Kayla Radamski broke the ice in a great way.

She looked a little glam, but she backed it up. Nigel Lythgoe really liked her. All the judges loved her, in fact. Kayla earned a ticket to Vegas. Her grandparents were there to celebrate with her.

Misha Belfer and Mitchell Kibel were up next. They danced as a couple, not a team. It was a ballroom performance. It was weirdly good, individually, but not together. Nigel Lythgoe said "it was a bit like watching Will Farrell in Blades of Glory..."

Making it through choreography and on to Vegas were 11 more from Day 1 in Denver.

For Day 2, Cat Girl took the stage, "dancing" to the theme of Star Wars. It was aweful, and she cried when the judges were mean.

Elias Holloway (18 Sate Fe, NM) and his 16 year old brother Enok, the youngest of 14 kids.

Wow. These guys were awesome. Even doing the 'pull-up' from last season's show. It was a fun audition. Elias Holloway was sent on to choreography. Elias did not make it this year, but look for him in the future.

Saving the best for last!

Natalie Reid, Katee's roommate, from last year's finale, came back as she was told to after just missing out.

Natalie has worked hard and it shows. She moved Sonja to near tears. Mary was also impressed. Nigel Lythgoe told her she was amazing and gave her a ticket to Vegas. Katie was the first person Natalie Reid called (or that's how they showed it).

Brandon Bryant showed his growth as well.

Dancing superbly. Mary was moved to tears this time. She actually sobbed and said "I have the greatest job in the world.. to sit here and see somebody do what I can never do...if you don't make it to the top 20 this year, I'll just die..." Nigel told Brandon to really bring his personality to the show... and gave him a golden ticket to Vegas.

All totalled from Day 2 in Denver 8 more dancers for a grand total of 19 dancers from Denver going to Vegas.

Next week: Miami and Memphis

Joshua Allen Wins SYTYCD Season 4 8/07/08

After the Confetti Cleared Joshua Allen
Wins the Dance Competition
FOX Thursday 8/7c 8/07/08

After all the fanfare and dancing ended for Season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance there was one young man left standing, Joshua Allen. The nineteen year old untrained Hip Hop dancer from Ft. Worth, Texas. Never before had a street dancer found themselves in the final two. This time both the finalist were from the street. Stephen 'Twitch' Boss has nothing to be sad about, finishing what had to be a close second.

Both the ladies of the final four were let go early, with Courtney leaving first. Really not a big surprise. She is fantastic, but the competition was too great. Katee was let go a short while later with a bonus, this year's top female and top male win a $50,000 prize. She finally showed raw emotion that was not choreographed. That's a lot of money to a dancer. I think that was Katee's only downfall, her lack of enthusiasm off the dance floor.

When it came down to Stephen 'Twitch' Boss and Joshua Allen, it didn't really matter anymore. Both men have their loyal followers and they co-mingle peacefully. Joshua just seems able to take every single jump, step or hand gesture one step further every time.

Filling in the rest of the two hour finale we were treated to an encore performance of the judges and choreographers' favorite routines of the season. This show differs from shows like American Idol, in that the judges prove they know what they are talking about. Mary Murphy gave a Latin dance that I could have never seen and been happy. Nigel Lythgoe tied on tap shoes and showed he could still tap with the best... well, he can still tap. He's such a ham, it was funny though... Read full article!

SYTYCD Season 4: Chelsie Hightower and Mark Kanemura 7/31/08

Tonight we see the Final 4 contestants. Chelsie Hightower and Mark Kanemura were eliminated. Leaving us with Joshua, Katee, Courtney G. and Twitch!

How in the world can you choose any of these dancers over the rest. Season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance is definitely the closest. There is no clear leader, I guess Mark has a big personal following though.

Each dancer gave us a solo tonight. They were all really good, of course.

I'll list them as they become available!

We were treated to a break dance solo from 6 year old Lil Demon. Wow, he is awesome!

Katee was sent to the finals first, rightfully so. On the men's side, Joshua quickly followed. Yea! Down to Mark, Steven "Twitch" Boss, Courtney Galiano and Chelsie Hightower.

Chelsie Hightower was tonight's first casualty. Then Mark K., I was surprised since Twitch kept landing in the bottom. Really happy with the Final 4!

SYTYCD : Top 6 Perform 7/30/08

So You Think You Can Dance
is Down to the Final 6!
FOX Wednesday 9/8c 7/30/08

I don't know how in the world to pick the best on this show. It gets harder every season on SYTYCD. Each of these final 6 dancers are incredible in their own right. Tonight proved to be the best yet for the hit FOX show.

Lets break it down.

First up were Mark and Courtney G. with a Viennese Waltz. Finally we get to see a Viennese Waltz in all of its glory! This was actually a Waltz, not a Contemporary wanna-be. Mark finally proved to me he should be in this position. His lines and rise/falls were fantastic. Courtney, I don't like her with a partner, but love to watch her solo. Hmmmmmm....
Glowing reviews from the judges. Song:Time of My Life by David Cook

Chelsie H. was up next with her solo to The Pussy Cat Dolls When I Grow Up. Chelsea showed us a chili pepper Salsa of a solo. It was okay, but didn't really highlight what she is capable of.

Twitch treated us to a Hip Hop solo to The Midas Touch by Morning Star. As always entertainment at its finest, Twitch outfitted himself for the song with a golden 'grill', it was hilarious! But what was better was when Cat Deeley asked to put them on after the dance. "Spit and all," said Cat as she now sported the top 'grill' and the golden sunglasses. Then got a taste of something bad and about gagged!

Up next were Katee and Joshua, thank you magic hat for putting them together again! Dancing to Celine Dion's All By Myself, it was something to see. Though I don't agree with the judges that it was the best ever on SYTYCD, it was special.
The judges pointed out Paula Abdul and Gillian Lynne in the audience. Nigel Lythgoe got bullied into a standing ovation for the pair.

Twitch and Chelsie H. gave us a Mambo. Twitch had to wear his pants up high, he should do this more often! It was one of the better Latin dances this on Season 4 of SYTYCD. I knew Chelsie would hit it, but Twitch stayed down in his feet very well. The judges enjoyed Chelsie and gave Twitch some nice pointers.

Katee soloed to Can't Stop Thinking About You by Maroon 5. I really enjoy Katee's solos, she should be headed for the finals.

Joshua showed us a solo to Like That by Memphis Bleek. He is truly amazing, showing every genre of Hip Hop, doing the splits and coming right back up without using his arms. The highest jumps ever!

Mark and Courtney came back with a Contemporary dance to The Garden by Miria. It was different, the song was very cool, the choreography was weird. The judges loved it, but it looks like they are going to leave it up to the public. Mary Murphy even said it was weird.

Katee and Joshua gave us a Pasa Doble to Filet by LeReve. This was so dramatic. Joshua with no shirt on... we have a winner! At the end of the dance, he dragged he across the stage in true matador style! Mary Murphy screamed twice for them, deafening everyone in North America. Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy both professed that Joshua should "steal the show" if he continues improving his natural talent.

Courtney G. gave us her solo to Rock Your Soul by Elisa. Courtney is a beautiful Contemporary dancer, but her solo got overpowered by Joshua and Katee's dance. Hopefully her fan base won't let her down!

Mark's solo was to Bum Like You by Robyn. Kind of

Twitch and Courtney had the final dance of the night with a Hip Hop routine about 'crazy conductors', to Control by The Vitamin String Quartet. It was the coolest Hip Hop story I've seen this season. In this routine, whoever held the wand controlled the other dancer. Awesome! The judges loved them both, Chelsie more than kept up with Twitch's every move.

This is the toughest season of SYTYCD ever! Two dancers leave tomorrow night and the Season 4 Finale is next week, already. I think it will be, sadly, Twitch and Courtney G. who leave. My guess for the Final 4 dancers are: Joshua, Katee, Chelsie H. and Mark. Man, I hope I'm wrong!

SYTYCD Sends Home Will and Comfort 7/24/08

Cutting Down to the Top 6
So You Think You Can Dance
FOX Thursday 9/8c 7/24/08

Will and Comfort were the victims of the voters this week on So You Think You Can Dance Season 4.

After a very cool opening number (as usual!), Kat Deeley talked to the judges briefly before reading the results. This was so Nigel Lythgoe could remind everyone that the most important vote cast this year will be in the November elections in the U.S.

Katee was called out first and told she was safe after another stellar dance week for her. Katee is the surprise of the season for me. I really thought she would be out early with a bad attitude, but she is really shining.

Will came out next and surprised all by landing in the bottom two! Yea! I am so tired of the 'golden boy'. I hope this is Will's last week so he can start his career.

Comfort, not surprisingly, lands herself in the bottom two (again). Poor thing, she must not have a good fan base.

Mark, with a huge fan base (for some reason), landed safely tonight. I just still don't get it. He is not cute and his hair has got to go!

Chelsea H. was up next to meet her fate. She had a great night last night with Joshua and both should stay safe. Sure enough, Chelsea H. is safe for another week of SYTYCD.

Twitch stepped out on stage to a shrill of screams. He has definitely surprised the judges this season. I can't wait to watch Twitch in shows on Broadway! Sadly it comes down to Twitch and Will. Twitch cried and had to be helped by Kat. I think Twitch will stay.

Joshua was told last night that he has the biggest bum in the business last night by Nigel Lythgoe. Joshua is obviously safe, since Will and Twitch are the bottom two dancers, but this way he got a kiss from Kat Deeley!

Courtney G. was sitting alone backstage, and already knows she is in the bottom two dancers. I think it was just her partner that cost her, a lot of people don't like Will!

I'm blogging this as the show is airing, so if it seems a little weird, that's why (that and I'm a little weird!)

LLCool J gave us a treat with his newest rap! I think the song was called Favorite, but I'm not sure. LLCool J is still hot! Exit 13 is the name of the new CD.

Comfort is the first to go. Not a big surprise, she was voted off last week and brought back with Jessica's injury. She is a good dancer, just not a big enough voting fan base.

The guys will be a shock either way. Will has danced his last dance on SYTYCD Season 4. Yea! Twitch fans everywhere unite for next week, don't leave him hanging in the bottom next week. Good-bye Will, you obviously have a ton of people waiting to work with you.

America Eliminates Two Dancers on SYTYCD 7/17/08

Gev and Kherrington Voted Off SYTYCD
FOX 9/8c 7/17/08

In a bit of a surprise, Kherrington and Gev were the first two dancers eliminated from So You Think You Can Dance tonight. The first night that America has all of the power turned against Kherrington. She and partner Twitch had seemed flawless together, but last night was a partner draw and Kherrington was paired with Mark (also in the bottom 2 this evening).

The bottom 4 dancers were: Comfort, Kherrington, Gev, and Mark.

Comfort was the sure bet to be sent home since she was eliminated by the judges last week after a string of bottom 3 finishes. She got a reprieve after Jessica (gold-boy Will's former partner) had to leave the competition with an ankle or leg injury. See how I got through that without one snarky comment about Mia Michaels getting her wish!(oops)

Kherrington looked like she already knew the outcome after she danced her obligatory solo. She was obviously hurt that it must have been Twitch that kept them in the running. I was shocked, but maybe she was too cute and not raw enough for the American public. Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe were right when they said she will probably end up in the movies.

The guys were not much of a surprise, Mark has such a big Internet following. I'm sorry, I don't see it. He just bugs me, I think it is the faux-hawk. I really can't stand it, but the times he has his hair down its all greased to his head. I just don't get it.

Gev is so cute and I always forget how good he is at Hip Hop, until he has to show us every single week in a solo (for getting fewest phone votes). I think he is way cuter than Mark, but Mark is a more professional dancer. Guess that shows the difference between American Idol fans and SYTYCD fans, you guys care more about talent! Good for you!

Though not one of these people can be accused of getting by on looks. The judges obviously have a love affair with Will this season, but hopefully America and fans of So You Think You Can Dance will correct that by putting him in the bottom a few times. Or let him get on with his career that is so obviously awaiting him. Will is a wonderful dancer, but has yet to prove himself as the best on the stage he is on.

Comfort and Thayne Get Eliminated From SYTYCD Season 4 07/10/08

So You Think You Can Dance
Top 10 Announced
FOX Thursday 9/8c 7/10/08

It was obvious when the bottom three vote getters for last night's performances were named who would be leaving tonight. At least from the men's side of SYTYCD, the women was between two. Comfort and Thayne, the newest couple to be let go from the competition had little chance from the start.

Will and Jessica were the second couple to be left in the bottom and dancing solos "for their lives". The judges pointed out Debbie Allen, Will's mentor in the audience, and said that she would be welcome to watch him on their stage for a long time. Jessica got horrible reviews on Wednesday's performance with Mia Michael's saying,"Will, you look tired of carrying her". No other dancer is going to be in Will's category as far as the judges go, he better get a strong fan base though as America takes control next week.

Twitch and Kherrington were the surprise in the bottom three tonight, but it was a pleasure to watch both of their solos. Especially Twitch's freestyle HipHop of the Mad Maestro. Again, before either danced their solos, the judges told them they would be safe.

The solos brought what all assumed they would, it was still tight between Jessica and Comfort (and I thought they might give Will a chance with Comfort). In the end it was Comfort and Thayne (who had to know he was leaving before he ever danced his solo) who left SYTYCD tonight.

The Top 10 So You Think You Can Dance contestants are:
Kherrington
Twitch
Jessica
Will
Gev
Courtney G.
Joshua
Katee
Chelsie
Mark

Kourtni Lind and Matt Dorame Eliminated From SYTYCD Season 4 7/03/08

Now SYTYCD Season 4 is Down To the Top 12
FOX Wednesday 9/8c 7/03/08

The bottom three couples dancing for their lives was not much of a surprise. It really is not about fan base yet, you can really tell in the solos which dancers have gotten better. So who had the pleasure tonight?

Comfort Fedoke - While Comfort is a gifted dancer and will continue a successful career, her solo moves were not as impressive as the other dancers tonight.

Thayne Jasperson - In a new partnership with Comfort after last week's elimination, Thayne showed even less during his solo.

Kourtni Lind - Kourtni L. and Matt have had issues from the start (not with each other, just their performances in general). It has got to be the height thing, they just look too long and lanky out there.

Matt Dorame - Originally one of my favorites. I still enjoyed both Matt D. and Kourtni's solos tonight, but together it just didn't work.

Courtney Galliano - It surprised me that Courtney and Gev wound up in the bottom 3, they are very cute together. I guess maybe a little too cute. Didn't matter when you can solo like this girl!

Gev Manoukian - Gev has never been one of my favorites, but he certainly earned his place tonight with an impressive Hip Hop solo. Made me say, "Oh, that's why he is there!"

A surprise performance by Robert Murraine tonight was an extra treat for everyone! Then Nigel Lythgoe suggested that Robert was maybe not the best, Philip Chebeeb (aka PacMan) may be the best Popper out there. He said he would only judge if there were a face-off between the two. He then goaded Robert by saying the he hoped he wouldn't quit. Robert agreed, so that would be cool - watch for the finale!

In the end it was Kourtni L. and Matt D. who got eliminated tonight from SYTYCD Season 4.

SYTYCD Contestants Dance 6/25/08

So You Think You Can Dance
Joshua and Katee Close the Show With a Samba
Wednesday 8/7c 6/25/08

The night started with Twitch and Kherington (aka 'Twitchington') and an incredible Hip Hop routine. I am not sure if they were doing Hip Hop or Crumping, but either way it was a hard-hitting routine that got you into it. There was a lot of acting involved and all was comically done. Twitch was perfect for the part, but Kherington more than held her own.

Nigel Lythgoe - "I'll start with the positive, I loved it... you danced it well, great routine. Now for the negative... I can't think of anything!"

Mary Murphy - Screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmm

Next up was Courtney G. and Gev, with a Rumba. It was much more down and dirty than last weeks attempt from Marquis and Susie. The judges all seemed to really enjoy it as well. Gev continues to surprise everyone.

Comfort and Chris came out with a dance from which genre, I'm not sure (it was supposed to be Jazz). It was based on an African routine by Tyce Diorio. This was a disappointing routine, great music but not much dance going on in a together kind of way. It started out very cool, but fell apart in the middle and never regained itself.

Nigel Lythgoe - "... it wasn't animalistic enough for me"

Mary Murphy - "... it should have been more raw"

Jessica and Will took on a Doriana Sanchez disco routine next. Jessica had problems in last week's routine so shae needed to step up this week. She still looked pretty choppy to me, but I ain't the judge. Will just looked too good in that white Tux! The judges would have torn up any other couple with this many obvious errors, but they Love Will.

Nigel Lythoe - " ... there were 2 or 3 areas where it went wrong, but you carried it off"

Mary Murphy - "... there were mistakes, but you carried it off"

Adam - "... I thought the routine was really great"

Matt and Kourtni L. were up with a Contemporary routine by a new choreographer, Sonja. It was very weird and more like a Hip Hop routine on toe. I really hate when a choreographer does not take advantage of the talent they are given.

Nigel Lythgoe - "Sonja did a great job with that. This is so quirky... that's why I liked it... do I think the public will get it, no..."

Mary Murphy- "Sonja, there was something weird going on in your head and on that stage... and I'm buying it! ... it was terrific!"

Adam - "... when they talk about people who are supposed to dance, they are talking about you guys..."

Chelsea T. and Thayne took on the Quick Step. Their lines were gorgeous throughout the dance. The judges seem slightly against this couple, so we will have to see how they call it. It looked good to me, there is not much you can do with the Quick Step.

Nigel Lythgoe - "... you didn't show your personality, it was like someone put bandaids on your mouths and drew teeth on them... it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be... you both better get your solos ready"

Mary Murphy - "... it was OK, the entrance was really good... I have to compare you to previous contestants... "

Adam - "... the end dip was great, you went for it"

Next up were Chelsie H. and Mark with a Hip Hop routine choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon. Very cool, but I don't know why they dressed him in a business suit and her all baby ghetto. Anyway, it was a cool dance.

Nigel Lythgoe - "... I am loving Tabitha and Napoleon, glad they came to the 'real' dance show... brilliantly choreographed and danced"

Mary Murphy - "... I have to agree... I really believed the struggle going on up there"

Adam - "... that was AWESOME!"

Dancing last this evening are Katee and Joshua with a Samba. Let's see, will it be hot? yep, very, very hot. Joshua did the best for the guys so far on Latin dancing. I think they missed a lift, but kept on. It was really good.

Nigel Lythgoe - "... very good both of you... Katee, you didn't over do any movements... Joshua, ... I'm not sure who poured you into those pants, did you get those buns from your father (who stood up and showed Nigel his buns!)"

Mary Murphy - dog's could barely hear her pitch. " Hot tamale, yes it was!"

Adam - "That was competing, that was some serious competing... you guys really know how to end the show, thank you"

Well, after tonight"s SYTYCD the bottom three may be: Chelsea and Thayne... Comfort and Chris... and Kourtni and Matt may be in trouble. If you love these 3 couples, I would vote for them, a lot!

If you are voting for the best couple of the night, well that would have to go to Joshua and Katee with a dirty little Samba!

Now go Vote!

Stay tuned for videos!
