American Idol - Top 12 Highlights

Tonight the American Idol contestants competed against each other for the first time. Singing songs from John Lennon and Paul McCartney (again, come on! It was The Beatles a couple of weeks ago).

Here's how American Idol played out:

First up was Sayesha Epperson singing "Got To Get You Into My Life"
Randy Jackson - "Pitchy...Just alright for me"
Paula Abdul - blah, blah, not great
Simon Cowell - "Very good"
My opinion - Randy was right.

Next was Chikezie with "She's A Woman"
Randy Jackson - "Thoroughly entertaining" "Chikezie Smashed It"
Paula Abdul - "I knew this Chikezie was in there"
Simon Cowell - "Really surprised that I agree with Paula and Randy"
My opinion - wow, I had no idea he could perform like that.

Ramele had to follow with "In My Life"
Randy Jackson - "It was pretty, but it was boring"
Paula Abdul - you look beautiful...blah,blah,blah
Simon Cowell - "That was completely boring"
My opinion - big yawn...zzzzzzzzz

Jason Castro was up next with "If I Fail"
Randy Jackson - "It was alright"
Paula Abdul - "I feel your heart"
Simon Cowell - "It was all a bit student in a bedroom at midnight"
My opinion - Some notes just get away from him, not nearly as good as last week.

Carly Smithson, the Irish Wonder, came out with "Come Together"
Randy Jackson - "Stellar"
Paula Abdul - you are already a star
Simon Cowell - "You reminded me that this is the same week Kelly Clarkson got interesting"
My opinion - this one really rocked!

David Cook sang "Eleanor Rigby"
Randy Jackson - "once you hit the chorus, you were rockin'"
Paula Abdul - "You are the dark horse... a thoroughbred"
Simon Cowell - "Brilliant...if this show remains about talent and not a popularity contest, you might win"
My opinion - This guy has really surprised me, this was without a doubt my biggest mistake on the Top 10 list.

Brook White had a tough act to follow with "Let It Be"
Randy Jackson - "very heartfelt"
Paula Abdul - "This is your niche"
Simon Cowell - "one of the best of the night...brilliant"
My opinion - I did not like this at all, but I want to like Brooke.

Wednesdays show revealed the exit of the latest contestant... David Hernandez. David H. brought a lot of publicity to American Idol due to his former employment, but I don't think this played any part in his leaving the show... he simply didn't get enough votes. It all came down to David H. or Christy Lee Cook, both of whom had a bad night Tuesday.

David sang his version of "I Saw Her Standing There", and got not so good reviews from all 3 judges. While I did not think that this was David's worst performance, it certainly did not hold up against the others.

Christy Lee Cook's performance of "Eight Days A Week" was simply awful. She even apologized for having to sing the song again on Wednesday.

I thought that Christy would go home, but she evidently has a larger voting fan base than David H., so good-bye David H.!
