Biggest Loser 11: Kaylee Gets Eliminated and Rulon Quits

Things took another, slightly less dramatic turn tonight on Biggest Loser 11. There was the normal elimination drama, but it was not as surprising as was the quitting of Olympic champion Rulon Gardner. What should have been a fun week turned into a confusing one for all of the contestants on BL11.

It was a blast from the past seasons of Biggest Loser returning in small groups to help train the contestants. Most notably was car pulling wonder woman Tara Costa. Tonight proved only that she is stronger than ever, and she said she is planning on doing World Ironman this year.

The challenge was to repeat the car pulling task, this season without the bricks selectively placed (as they all were in Tara's car last time), past the finish line first. The winner earned a guest pass to a NASCAR race, their face on a box of Wheaties, and a $5000 cash prize.

Rulon led the whole way with Tara a close second and Austin closing in at the end. With very little room to the finish line Tara gave everything she had, and in a literal photo finish she beat Rulon. The Olympic champion had more than expected to finally get that Wheaties box, and had said it was his race to lose.

Early in the show the editors made it look like it could have been anyone who was going to quit the Biggest Loser tonight. Finally we saw a clip of Rulon saying he was very close to his target weight and could leave happily at the weigh in. After Tara beat him in the race, or at least it was edited to look that way, Rulon made his decision to leave the ranch.

At the weigh-in Alison Sweeney said Rulon had something to say to all and he walked up on the scale to say he was leaving for "personal reasons." That was all he would say at the time. Later he explained that he had "things that need to be addressed at home and I reached my goal." I'm not buying it, and I don't trust Rulon to keep the weight off. But hey Rulon, you are the first person to ever quit the Biggest Loser... so there is that.

In shock, the rest of the BL11 contestants took to the scale. Irene went first and became the first woman on BL11 to lose over 100lbs while on the ranch. She is the silent ninja!

Kaylee went second and had another bad week. She gained two pounds. Not that it's terrible to gain two pounds, but it is when you are dedicating you life to weight loss on the Biggest Loser ranch.

Austin followed, now on his own at the ranch he was out to make a point. He did, losing seven pounds this week Austin was safe from elimination.

Olivia lost a giant six pounds this week to keep herself safe on the ranch and put her total weight loss at 99lbs.

Jay took the scale and lost seven pounds this week, or 'only seven pounds' as Jay sees it. He's pretty hard core about wanting a big number every week and he's only had one low week the whole season I think.

Hannah stepped onto the scale and only needed a minor loss to avoid the dreaded yellow line. She pulled a five pound weight loss and kept herself in second place for percentage of weight loss for the week (second to Olivia, girl power!).

So the yellow line came down on Kaylee and Irene. While many seasons of Biggest Loser become nothing but game play, this group remains tight. It would have been the perfect (yet sad) time to get rid of Irene the Machine, but they stuck to their friendships. I don't even think they are alliances this season, which is refreshing.

The votes came down:
Austin: voted Irene
Olivia: voted Kaylee
Hannah: voted Kaylee
Jay: no vote since a tie would still leave Kaylee eliminated by lowest percentage of weight loss this week.

The follow up on Kaylee was good. She said she figured out why she was going up and down at the ranch; it was because she had reached her goal weight. Not sure about that but she looked happy, and has gotten her first boyfriend (Vince from week 13 of BL11, he tried to win his way onto the show). Vince has lost 68lbs all by himself. Nice job!

Next week is makeover week for the Biggest Loser: Couples final five: Irene, Hannah, Olivia, Jay and Austin. That's always one of the best episodes. Join me on Twitter during the show (TVReviewProgram) or catch the recap here!

What did you think of Rulon quitting? How about Tara, leave a shout out for that lady!

  2. These are great examples. I loved looking at all of these cool weight loss stories.

I just don't get what happen last night. Did he get DQ?? Or did he really need to leave for personal reasons. Tara should have never came back esp to win a prize. To come and be an example and motivator yes. To compete for prize. None of the people should be competing for a prize besides the contestants.

  3. Thanks for the great examples Wanda! You are completely right, of course, when you say you don't need to be on the BL ranch to lose weight.

Paula, I don't think he got DQ since they billed as "he quit" throughout the week on commercials.I'm surprised since he could have won. I sort of agree about Tara competing, but I think they were all shocked that Rulon did not win. I think they assumed he, or even Austin would beat her.

Thanks for the comments! Stop back anytime!

  4. Yeah, Rulon was forced to quit by the production because he was caught cheating on several occasions. The man has questionable ethics, and he was caught. Good bye Rulon!

  5. Oh and I didn't like Tara when she was on the show and I certainly didn't like that she "stole" a prize away from a current. . I do not think we will ever know exactly what happened with Rulon, I think the only thing we can do is wish him the best.

  6. Yeck!! I did not like the show last night.April 27, 2011 at 1:38 PM

i didn't like tara when she was a contestant & i didn't like it last night she should of not been allowed to compete last night ali & sam didn't compete what made her so special it should of been this seasons contestants it is no wonder Roulon walked off he said it was for personal reasons & if truth be known that was it if that kind of stuff continues i will stop watching also.

    What a bunch of bullarky!!

  7. I don't like the fact TARA had the opportunity to win a prize- she should have been there for encouragement only.

As for Rulon, I heard he kept breaking the rules. Like using a cell phone and leaving the ranch and eating in his room, that he thought the rules didn't apply and that he was disqualified.

I think the pressure of rulon always being labeled as the Olympic gold medalist which is a lot of pressure for someone I think they were right when they said he was just tired of competing.

  8. I just watched the DVR! CRAP! It sucks he's gone.

  9. The contest was "first person to cross the finish line," not first car to cross the finish line. Too bad the producers have to cheat.

  10. My gosh I love those peoples stories you shared. I agree about the producers. It's too bad. the lady that ate 6 meals a day was a beauty pageant winner.

Jenn has a great story. glad you posted those. Hey how old is Rulon anyways?

  11. Yea Rulon left alright. Just read an article that hes training at the Olympic Center and mounting a comeback to wrestling...that would be amazing

  12. I always thought that it was unfair that a former Olympic GOLD medalist was competing against regular people. Even if his weight was out of control - all the training he had done in his career allowed for "muscle memory" that gave him a huge advantage over his fellow contestants. He was exposed as a late night food cheat on a prior show and I guess that he was warned that he had to comply with the show rules or go home. The fact that Tara beat him... hurt his fragile ego. I don't think that she should have been allowed to compete but SHE IS A GIRL and he is a man and an Olympian!!! That it was even a close call showed what a pathetic competitor he had become. Once his male babysitter left the show - he was lost. He needs to spend some time with a psychiatrist and get over his entitlement issues and stop living in the past. Don't expect to see him at the finale... don't you hear the CRUNCH CRUNCH of chips and dips coming all the way from Logan Utah... I predict he'll have regained half if not all his weight loss back.

  13. Your right she did do a beauty pageant. OMG she looks amazing!! Wild to think she was ever 100 pounds overweight. My dad made the comment that see you don't need the biggest loser. I think that Rulon Got screwed by Tara showing up.

No I don't I don't like Tara I do I just think they should have never had a former come compete for a prize that the contestants were going for. That was just a dumb move.

I was glad to see that they had him on the show. IT goes to show that weight loss is not easy and even very in shape put together people can get trapped into emotional eating. I do think that there is so so so much more to the story and no one will ever be talking about it. Maybe he did need to go home. It's not for me to judge that is for sure.

Biggest loser needs some fresh blood. I am not sure how it's going to turn out but I think it would be great to see him come back face the music and talk about why he left.

  14. It must have been a set up. I think we can learn more from these people that we can the biggest loser hollywood style.
Ug Rulon!! Why did you quit.

  16. Tara showing up on BL11 was great, she was showing that she was keeping the weight off and what she was doing with the skills she learned on BL; BUT, to be able to compete and then win the prize, I feel that this is out of line.

All Rulon wanted was to be on the Wheaties box, and I feel that was just stripped away from him by allowing a former contestant to compete. The producers made a big mistake with this one.

  17. The car race was rigged

    http://blfake.blogspot.com/

clearly as you can see by the screen shoots in the blog and if you go on hulu and view the video for yourself, you can see that the producers redid the results.

I'm sorry but this show has lost all its integrity and I will no longer be viewing it.

  18. I agree that former contestants should not have the chance to compete against current ones. Maybe the three visiting former contestants could have competed. I suspect that a Tara vs Sam pulling contest would have been interesting.
