Jeff Probst narrated a long recap (even after last week’s recap show), to start the episode. Talking about how the weather had worn on the castaways. We watched as storm after storm hit the Survivor camps this season. It felt like another storm was brewing.
Time was spent recapping Holly’s flirtation with quitting Survivor Nicaragua early on. She got a pep talk from former NFL coach Jimmy Johnson and found a new fire inside. Johnson was voted out in week three though, so no one was left to talk to these two. The guys tried to warm NaOnka, but she remained miserable. In her mind, she was far worse off than the others.
After another storm, NaOnka pulled Chase aside and handed him the Hidden Immunity Idol and wished him luck in the game. He looked pretty stunned at her plan to quit with only 11 days left. NaOnka seemed completely determined though. She had the look of someone who’s already quit their job mentally, just riding out the two week notice (or reward challenge in this case).
The Reward Challenge was based on the new Jack Black movie “Gulliver’s Travels”. Teams had to untie an 8ft dummy (Gulliver) and drag it through a maze of ropes in a bit of an obstacle course. Before anything could get started, NaOnka spoke up about quitting the game, and this being her last day on Survivor Nicaragua. Jeff Probst was stunned and asked if anyone else wanted to leave. Purple Kelly spoke up and said she too would be leaving. Instead of insisting they leave right then (which he should have done), he gave them until tribal council that night to think about it.
Teams
Blue: Holly, NaOnka, Chase, Benry (Dan sat out but opted to back Blue)
Yellow: Fabio (Jud), Jane, Purple Kelly, and Sash
The lead went back and forth and Jeff Probst kept yelling about digging deep and finding that inner strength. It was obvious what he was alluding to, Probst is really having to drag this group to the finish line.
The Blue team won the Reward Challenge, a trip to the Survivor Cinema to watch “Gulliver’s Travels” and eat anything they wanted from the concession stand. Jeff then made an offer. If one person from the Blue team would give up their reward he would give the entire team enough rice for the last 11 days and a new tarp (the last burned in the fire).
Holly stepped up, even though Probst aimed the bonus right at NaOnka. The others poked NaOnka, telling her to take Holly’s place. Holly gave NaOnka a motherly, “I see how it is missy!” face. NaOnka sat, ungrateful and ready to eat to her heart’s content... and then quit.
Back at camp the left over players (Fabio, Jane, Purple Kelly, Sash and now Holly), ate rice like it was bread pudding on Christmas morning. Holly took Purple Kelly for a walk/talk after a little food. It seemed like it might work. Kelly complained about no food, “I got you rice” Holly said. Kelly complained about being wet, “I got you a tarp” said Holly. It was obvious Kelly’s mind was made up though. At least she looked disappointed in herself. Holly told Kelly to suck it up, Purple Kelly said, “I have nothing left to suck.” M’kay.
The other side of the coin is NaOnka, who was seen stuffing her face and giggling like a school girl playing hookey with the rest of the tribe at the movie. Benry tried to make her feel at least a little bad about letting Holly sit out. Nope, NaOnka cares for no one.
Obviously the producers knew someone was definitely quitting since there was no Immunity Challenge. Off went the tribe for a special Tribal Council to see if the girls would change their minds and stay. Jeff Probst started right off pressing NaOnka for all the wrongs she’s done to her team this season. Stealing and hiding food, backdooring her best friend Brenda. NaOnka offered no apologies.
Probst asked NaOnka if she thought she could have won if she stayed and of course she said yes. He acted shocked. I wasn’t. NaOnka is full of herself, and it’s a good thing she has herself as she may be lonely down the road with her attitude. The sad thing is that she’s a PE teacher in the public school system. Sad.
Purple Kelly was not swayed by Jeff at Tribal Council either, but as usual she had little to say. This was one of the very few nights Purple Kelly has even had a speaking part on Survivor Nicaragua. She’s been the quiet swim suit model most of the season. If you listen closely you can actually hear Survivor Nicaragua losing male viewers as we speak.
Probst asked what the ladies though should happen to their torches. “I think it should be smuffed,” said NaOnka (showing her intelligence level). Purple Kelly agreed, though she said the correct word “snuffed”. Jeff decided to keep them up, unlit, at the Tribal Council area to “remind you guys”. Of course it also serves as a reminder to the three jury members having to watch the drama unfold and not be able to voice their reactions. You could see it though. If looks could kill.
So, NaOnka took her torch to Jeff and he “smuffed” it out and placed it to the side in a holder. Then he said, “You want to go?”
NaOnka said, “Yes”
Probst said, “Go.”
Next, Purple Kelly took her torch to Jeff and he was a little nicer to her as he put her’s out and told her to leave. He looked pretty disgusted with them both. I guess they better step up the mental screenings for Survivor. Or maybe this will signal the end has come for the reality competition.
As the camera’s rolled, Purple Kelly apologized and at least sounded disappointed with herself for quitting Survivor Nicaragua. NaOnka said it was a great achievement for her, and offered no apologies for her behavior or for quitting. Atta’ girl. They should not even be allowed to join the jury. At least they can feel bad about being beaten by Dan.
With only seven left, the competition just got a little easier on Survivor Nicaragua. Jane, Chase, Benry, Sash, Holly, Fabio (Jud) and Dan all got a little closer to the money. Who are you backing to win the million dollars on Survivor Nicaragua? Are you ready for the show to end?
