My only surprises, and they were slight, were Tim Halperin not being asked to sing for his life… that actually goes for Clint Jun Gamboa as well. I thought the AI judges really liked Clint, but I’m glad they left him out. We never really got to hear enough of Tim Halperin to make a more balanced decision on him. He should have brought it last night. Song choice will kill you on Idol.
The American Idol judges called six contestants back to sing live tonight in a last audition. Ashton Jones, Stefano Langone, Kendra Chantelle, Jovany Barreto, Naima Adedapo and Robbie Rosen all took their turns.
Ashton Jones somehow managed to diva her way onto the last stage. Asked to sing for her life with five other contestants after the AI top 10 was named, Ashton went with “And I’m Telling You” by Jennifer Hudson. It was not even close to her best, but the judges really love her.
Stefano Langone, on the other hand, took his second chance to heart. Singing “I Need You Now” by Smokie Norful, Stefano actually made me tear up. He just looks like the picture of the pop star, and I think that’s what I don’t like about him. Tonight though, Stefano showed us he really can sing and feel the music. It was moving… and pretty obvious he locked up one of the wildcard places. In fact after reading the lyrics of this song I think I would implode with emotion if Jacob Lusk were to have performed it.
Naima Adedapo stayed in her blues-y area with “For All We Know” by Nat King Cole, and was crying by the end. I was not nearly as moved as the judges or Naima. It was good, but not great. I still figured she would take a wildcard spot though, the judges love her style (fashion that is).
My biggest disappointments of American Idol season 10 so far are Robbie Rosen and Julie Zorrilla. I had such high hopes for both. Both chose bad songs last night, and Robbie did not redeem himself tonight by over singing “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word”, one of my favorite songs.
So what do you think of the American Idol top 13? Were you surprised at all by the voting or the judges’ picks for the wildcards? Let me know what you’re thinking about Idol this season!

My husband & I thought the 2 ladies they chose were POOR wild card choices/in fact, they only should have had the men as wild card choices since they were so much better than the ladies. Stefano was was a good choice, and include Jovany, and Robbie in that order.
