The task tonight was to write a children's book, then act it out on stage in front of four and five year old kids. The winning project manager would get $20,000 for their charity. Teams would be judged on originality and presentation by former Celebrity Apprentice runner up Holly Robinson-Peete.
The men chose Meatloaf as their PM. The women all threw the job to Lisa Rinna who repeatedly said she did not feel comfortable leading this one. Though to be fair, I don't think she would have felt comfortable leading at all.
Meatloaf and Team Backbone had the most creativity flowing. That much was obvious from the start. With rapper Lil' Jon and singer/song writer John Rich on their side it was nearly a done deal. The biggest issue for Meatloaf was keeping Gary Busey on task.
Team ASAP had troubles right off the bat with creativity and sniping intermixing in their brainstorming session. All agreed they would do something with a lion. That was about all they agreed on. Marlee Matlin had an idea of teaching the children some sign language. Dionne Warwick was not having that. At one point she even sniped at Matlin's signer as he was interpreting. Apparently Warwick thinks he is talking, not Marlee. He clarified that he was only there to speak for her, not himself.
While the men had their theme done early, the women continued to struggle. The men went with a sort of bullying theme, calling their book "Not so Little, Jon." Their book focused on a little boy who was ignored at school and felt left out.
The women knew they were using a lion that could not roar as their main character. Marlee Matlin suggested they have the lion be deaf and she would teach the kids some sign language too. Dionne Warwick stepped up to say that it would depress the kids to hear about a deaf lion. I've never seen Marlee signing so fast. At one point she called Warwick "ignorant", not without good cause. When it was finally over, they went the way of Warwick just to shut her up.
All was not rainbows and ponies on the men's team either. Meatloaf sent Gary Busey and Jose Conseco off to set up the props at the theater and sent them to the wrong address twice. It was not a huge error, but enough to make Jose nearly rip out of his too tight shirt and jeans like the Hulk.
At presentation time, both teams got it together for the kids. The women did a decent job, but were not very interactive with the kids. It was a cute story, but a little over the heads for the age group.
The guys were much more animated on stage and had the kids rapping with Lil' Jon by the end of the show. It was a little overwhelming to the kids, what with them throwing confetti and all. Though that part was a little scary, the men did better overall.
In the boardroom I could already hear the bus backing up to run down Lisa Rinna. Sure enough, it did not take long for Star Jones and Dionne Warwick, both of whom wanted only their names on the book cover, to gang up on Rinna. NeNe Leakes joined in the pile up, along with LaToya Jackson.. hmm, interesting scenario. (Special note: Apparently if you are a Jackson you can call the big guy "Donald" in the boardroom.)
Trump also stopped the boardroom action to comment on Lisa Rinna's "new" lips. He stated that he can't stand tattoos or women with huge blown up lips, and told Rinna she looked much better now. I agree, but I was shocked he did it in the boardroom.
The men were declared winners of the task, big shock, and Meatloaf cried as Trump told him his charity would win the money. His charity is The Painted Turtle Camp for sick children. He was overwhelmed with emotion.
It did not take long for Lisa Rinna to bring Dionne Warwick and Star Jones back to the boardroom with her to face The Donald. I was impressed that she did not chicken out and bring someone else. At least she was honest, even though she never stood a chance against them.
Donald Jr. made it clear that it was the book and the theme that were the downfall of the team. Star did the book, Dionne claimed the theme (even though it wasn't hers). As it often goes in Trump's boardroom though, it's not about who is actually responsible, it's about ratings. Keeping Rinna would have been a boring move. So it was easier to fire Lisa Rinna. Such is life. I will say Rinna did not do herself any favors by not fighting tooth and nail, but I don't think she would have stayed anyway.

Jones is interested in winning and clearly made Rinna her target this week. Her behavior and approach is to be expected. Disappointed in Warwick. Expected her to be a classy matriarch and not a bitter old wolf. The show is about drama and ratings and not about work ethics, integrity, etc. Trump wasn't much of a gentleman making comments about Rinna's lips. These folks must be desperate to appear on this show.
ReplyDeleteLisa was amongst a pack of roaring lions. She needed to show some teeth instead of trying to rationalize and seek kindness from outspoken, self-serving divas. Their strategy to set her up to failure was successful and likened them preying on the weak. Project management is not so easy- there are skills required. Lisa was light on skills, but high on class. She was trying to dignify an ugly situation and wanted to win as much as the others, but wasn't comfortable due to a lack of ruthlessness. Sometimes we inherent great team members, but the team needs to perform together. Lisa isn't a lion tamer or trainer. They all roared in the end. What can I say?
ReplyDeleteI think you both summed it up quite well! Lisa was definitely eaten by the lions, lol.
ReplyDeleteDionne Warkwick is about the most ignorant person I have seen so far. I could not believe the things she was saying too/about Marley Matlin. A person her age should know better. And as a woman of color saying those horribly ignorant things....she should be ashamed of herself. I know I sure am.
