After the tribal change up last week, and Joel going home blindsided, the Malakal tribe was tentative.
The Airai tribe had an injured Jonathan to worry about, but he was toughing it out pretty well at first.
The reward competition was a strength and agility test. Each team had 10 minutes to block a tunnel with boards and wood. After 10 minutes, each team switched sides and had to remove the obstacles in the tunnel, get all of their players through, and on a mat to win.
Airai won the challenge, and promptly sent Chet from Malakal and Jason from their own tribe to Exile Island.
Medical was immediately called in for Jonathan Penner's knee. The medic strongly advised Jonathan to leave the game immediately "for the sake of his leg and his life". He was evacuted straight away by boat, then to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery. According to Jeff Probst, Jonathan is recovering and will be fine.
With Jonathan gone, James was now alone on a team of 5 women. He was not comfortable with this situation at all, as he felt they would be better at wooing people to their point of view than him. He has obviously been raised around women, as many men would think they had it made and could easily outsmart the women. Silly boys!
Meanwhile the new Malakal tribe was plotting to get rid of the fans, specifically Chet and Tracy. Cirie seems to still be the vocal leader, while Ozzie thinks he is running things. Ami, from the Faves, decided to flip sides and align with the Fans.
Ozzie found the Hidden Immunity Idol on Exile Island last week (why would you send him there?), then planted a fake Hidden Immunity Idol so that someone else would find it and try to play it.
On Exile Island, Chet told Jason that he thought Ozzie had the Idol so he wasn't going to look for it. He cut his foot on a piece of coral, and wanted to relax and soak it.
Jason headed off to look for the Idol, found the fake one and giggled with joy, not knowing it was not real.
At the Immunity Challenge, Jason and Chet rejoined their tribes. Jeff Probst updated the tribes on Jonathan's condition. Jason suggested to Jeff Probst that Ozzie has already found the Idol, but he still thinks that he found the real Idol (or at least that is what they are leading us to believe).
The challenge consisted of having to balance on player on poles above the water across a span to a platform. When they get 2 players across, they have to go to a platform built for 5 people and fit all 7 of their teammates on the top.
James simple picked up the pole and carried the first player on one pole, with everyone else keeping the pole straight for balance. It was quite incredible. Airai beat Malakal by a mile, Malakal did not even get one player to the platform. Airai wins Immunity!
Back at camp, Chet immediately offers himself to the Malakal tribe vote at Tribal Council. Chet explained that his foot was now infected and he could no longer compete. The Faves of the tribe had no objectives as that was their plan, the fans on the other hand begged Chet to hang on through the Tribal Council and throw his vote their way to backdoor Ozzie.
Chet appeared to be considering voting with them to blind side Ozzie, but in the long run he decided to vote for Erik (a vote he knew would be wasted) and "that should be something they take care of themselves".
So Chet went home, and left them to the tigers.
