The Amazing Race Week 2: Jenna and Andie Get Lost

The Amazing Race: The First SeasonThe Amazing Race seemed to move very fast this week. By that I mean there were no tough tasks to complete. In fact, the hardest part of the night appeared to be surviving the cab ride through the streets of Accra, Ghana. Sadly birth mom and daughter team Jenna and Andie did get a little lost and wound up in last place. The heard the dreaded words from Phil, “...you are the last team to arrive. You have been eliminated from The Amazing Race.”

The only grueling part of the race tonight was listening to Brook screech at her teammate Claire... constantly. Claire had a great line to start the night, “...as long as there aren’t any watermelons on this leg, we should be alright.” The show started with the clip of her getting the watermelon in the face.

Though Jill and Thomas won the Express Pass last week for winning the leg, they chose to save it for later. The first task of the night cost them dearly in time.

The first roadblock was to sell sunglasses in the open market streets of Accra, Ghana. Team Home Shopping Network took over and never looked back. Brook sold the glasses and some took offense when she told one young man he looked like a gansta and a rapper in his shades. The man did not seem to take offense and accepted a big hug from the bubbly blonde. I don’t think she meant it to be a racist remark. I think Brook is just dumb.

The Detour tonight was a choice of “Tune In” or “Check Out”. In “Tune In”, teams had to install a TV antenna on the roof of a home. In “Check Out”, teams had to pick up and deliver a large decorated coffin.

Brook and Claire actually worked well together on the roof antenna and seemed to increase their lead. Oddly enough team Glee (Jonathan & Connor) could not understand the mechanics of a simple TV antenna and had to abandon that task and go to the coffins.

Once the team completed that, it was on to the pit stop. The ride often loses a team or two due to bad driving. Had that happened tonight, racers may have actually lost their lives. The taxi drivers literally made their own paths in the bumper to bumper traffic... and often had near misses. I was leaning in my chair the entire ride, it obviously helped as all made it through.

Here are the final standings tonight at the end of week two of The Amazing Race 17:

1st: Brooke & Claire (team HSN)
2nd: Katie & Rachel (team volleyball)
3rd: Michael & Kevin (team youtube)
4th: Chad & Stephanie (team domestic)
5th: Jill & Thomas (not sure about these two yet)
6th: Jonathan & Connor (team Glee)
7th: Nat & Kat (team Med)
8th: Nick & Vicky (team tat)
9th: Gary & Mallory (team pageant)
Eliminated tonight: Jenna & Andie

It was funny when Gary and daughter Mallory got to Phil at the finish line. Mallory appeared to nearly hyperventilate waiting for Phil to tell them if they were safe or eliminated. He let her babble on without breathing until she begged him to tell her.

Which team are you backing on The Amazing Race 17? I like Nat & Kat, but if Claire continues on and does not kill Brook I’d have to say she deserves to win. Where you sad to see Jenna & Andie go tonight?
