Survivor Nicaragua: Tyrone Gets the Axe at Tribal Council

The previews led us to believe there would be an early merge on Survivor Nicaragua tonight. There was a change up in tribes, but no merge. New captains were picked and the teams were redivided. Three members of the older tribe went to LaFlor and four of the younger tribe members went to Espada. At the end of the night, it was Tyrone that ended his journey on Survivor Nicaragua.

Tribe switching was not the only shake up tonight. The Medallion of Power was retired and the Reward/Immunity Challenges were split up again. All is right with Survivor again. Well, almost anyway.

The other change was in NaOnka’s attitude. After weeks of being the tribe bully on LaFlor, NaOnka found herself cold and alone on the new Espada tribe. Finding herself cold and wet from the storms took its toll on her, and by the end of the night she was nearly begging to leave the island.

The Reward Challenge started with the changing of teams. After drawing rocks for captains, Brenda and Holly got the yellow rocks that let them choose teams. Brenda chose Jane, Jill and Marty from the former Espada tribe. Holly chose Alina, Benry, Chase and NaOnka from the former LaFlor tribe.

So now the tribes are:
LaFlor
Brenda
Jane
Jill
Marty
Jud (Fabio)
Kelly B.
Kelly S.
Sash

Espada
Holly
Alina
Benry
Chase
NaOnka
Tyrone
Dan
Yve

The Reward Challenge followed immediately after the new tribes were formed. They were playing for two chickens and a rooster. Teams had to toss a ball up and into a maze (think Plinko from The Price Is Right) while two members of the other tribe tried to catch the balls coming out the other end. The first tribe to drop three balls lost. That team was LaFlor. Espada won wen Marty dropped a ball.

Back at camp the new tribes tried to get acquainted. Tyrone took over as the leader on Espada and explained to the new younger mates how things were going to be. This was his ultimate downfall. As usual on Survivor, never take the role of the leader. NaOnka kept her mouth shut, a Survivor Nicaragua first.

At camp LaFlor, the new older tribe members were happy with the new camp. The younger tribe had won more rewards so the camp was decked out with a tarp and blankets. Marty made himself known, maybe as the dumbest player ever on Survivor. After he was informed of the NaOnka/Kelly B. battle for the Hidden Immunity Idol, he proudly produced his idol for all to see. The other members of the tribe were stunned he showed it. Marty said he assumed someone would tell them he had it and hiding it would bite him in the butt later. This may be true, but I still think it was way too early.

The Immunity Challenge was a rough one tonight. Three tribe members were strapped to a water wheel while the rest turned them upside down into the water to get a mouthful. They then had to spit the mouthful into a tube to a certain point releasing a ball for another tribe member to throw and break tiles. Seriously producers, you’re lucky you did not have a dry drowning on your hands. Don’t try this one at home. See a demo here.

It was a close competition, but LaFlor pulled out the win for tribal immunity. The teams are now very well split, as both competitions were extremely tight and each tribe won one tonight.

After the Immunity Challenge, the Espada tribe decided to eat a chicken. Tyrone was against the decision and made it clear that they were making a mistake. He then helped himself to (according to the other tribe members) the largest helping of chicken. To be fair, he is the largest player in size. I just thought it was really, really, really stupid that they chose to eat a chicken and not the rooster.

At tribal council, I thought Tyrone did a pretty good job of trying to apologize for any toes he may have stepped on during the introductions. The younger members had made up their minds though. By an overwhelming vote, Tyrone was the fifth person voted out of Survivor Nicaragua.

I guess I’m rooting for Alina now. It’s hard to say since not all of the castaways have had as much air time as others. Who is your favorite player so far on Survivor Nicaragua?
