Tonight seemed like a really short leg for the Amazing Race, as racers left Bangledesh for Hong Kong. Jill & Thomas started out in front, but all the teams were equal after the long flight. Nick apparently was auditioning for the part of whiny b**** tonight, after the departure of Chad last week. By the end of the relatively easy leg Vicki had to drag him kicking and screaming to last place. The look on their faces when Phil told them this was a non-elimination leg was priceless. They were so ready to go home. The drama began as teams waited together at the airport. Jill & Thomas had to face the wrath of Brook & Claire after U-Turning them last week...awkward! Thomas said they should take it as a compliment since it meant that they were felt to be a strong team. That explanation always sounds better in your head. It never works in real life. It turned out to be just a kitten fight anyway, Brook could not help but shake hands.
The race was between Nat & Kat and Jill & Thomas tonight. Both teams were bull dogs, working fast and hard. The docs booked seats at the front of the plane and that’s always a smart move.
Teams had to leave the plane and take a fairy to the next clue. For no other reason than to possibly split up the teams, which it did. Ferries left every 30 minutes and all but Nick & Vicki made the first ferry. Let the whining begin! Vicki had an asthma attack and apparently Nick thinks that’s unacceptable. What an idiot. He continued to whine and cry throughout the leg.
Once teams got the clue, they headed back to Hong Kong to the Majesty Chinese Restaurant for a Roadblock. A food Roadblock. You guessed it, filled with barfing. It really was not that bad. One person had to look for fake food on a buffet of sushi. Anything you poked you had to eat. Claire and Vicki did not enjoy this challenge (‘nuff said).
We did, however, get to remenice with Claire over her Amazing Race experiences. Including her watermelon in the face clip..... (I can’t get enough of it! *giggle*)
Nat figured out the fake food the fastest and sent Team Docs into first place heading for the Detour. Thomas found his piece of fake food shortly after, and he and Jill headed for the Detour. Claire was struggling and Brook was cheerleading, I’m not sure which was making Claire sick.
Nick & Vicki finally showed up, just in time to see Brook find the fake food. Vicki said she had to do the Roadblock, and she was not happy. She barfed as well. Nick was trying to give her instructions on how to eat food that’s gross to you, seriously. Again, idiot.
The other three teams were headed for a statue of Bruce Lee to find the next clue. Nat & Kat got there first and headed for the Detour... Ding Ding or Sampan. In Ding Ding, teams had to ride a trolley down a busy street looking for signs that would give them the clue to the pit stop. In Sampan, teams had to take a cage of parakeets out to a boat numbered like the cage (there were hundreds of boats and it was dark).
Jill & Thomas headed for Ding Ding and Nat & Kat headed for Sampan, interesting. Nat & Kat headed out in their boat and figured out quickly it was harder than it looked. Jill & Thomas took one ride on the trolley and headed for the other task. Now well behind Nat & Kat, or so it seemed, Jill & Thomas found their boat nearly immediately. Nat & Kat found their boat right after that. Both teams headed back to shore to find the Pit Stop.
Jill & Thomas could not find a cab. Nat & Kat found one quickly and were off to the Pit Stop in first place. It was a close finish, but Nat & Kat won this leg of the Amazing Race 17. For winning the leg they get a trip for two to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Meanwhile, Brooke & Claire were now shouting their number into the night air as they looked for their boat after choosing sampan. Nick & Vicki were still not there. Finally Team HSN found their boat, delivered their parakeets and were off to the Pit Stop.
By this time Nick & Vicki were on their sampan trip. Nick had completely given up at this point. Vicki looked like an abused mom at KMart with a kid throwing a tantrum on the floor. I really felt sorry for her as she listened to Nick’s incessant whining for her to take the six hour penalty (surely enough to put them out of the race). Finally Vicki lamented and they headed back to the mainland without delivering their birds. Opting to take a six hour penalty, wow.
Standing at the Pit Stop with Phil, Nick looked like he would cry when they learned they still had to race. “...you’ll be way behind with a six hour penalty and an extra task, but you’re still in the race...” Phil Keoghan said. Neither Nick nor Vicki looked happy.
Amazing Race 17 final standings tonight:
1.Nat & Kat
2. Jill & Thomas
3. Brook & Claire
4. Nick & Vicki (Speed Bump next week and 6hr penalty)
Next week teams are off to the North Korean border. That should be interesting. I know it was filmed a long time ago, but still (weird that it’s in the news lately). I’m surprised they went near the border at all.
That’s it for this week on the Amazing Race 17. I’m okay with the top three teams and hope next week is the end of Nick & Vicki. Then I want Jill & Thomas to finish third. Other than that I don’t care ;) So, who do you want to win the Amazing Race this season?
