The Apprentice: The End of Crazy David

Donald Trump at a press conference announcing ...Donald TrumpImage via Wikipedia
Not all the drama left The Apprentice last week with Mahsa. Not by a long shot. Tonight started with a fight between Anand and Stephanie after last week’s boardroom, and ended with Dave being asked by Trump if he was gay. Unrelated to that, David was later fired mercifully fast.

After last week’s boardroom, Stephanie and Anand argued over whether or not Stephanie had also lied to Donald Trump. Stephanie went on to pretty much cuss Anand out. His reply was to call her “classless”. She confirmed it by cussing him out more.

It was time to split the teams up. New teams are now:
Fortitude: David, Poppy, Anand and Stephanie (like Trump was a fly on the wall!)
Octane: Clint, Brandy, Liza and Steuart

On to the task:

Terry Lundgren, head of Macy’s, joined Donald Trump and his sons to announce the task. Teams were to layout a four page advertorial for the Donald J. Trump Signature Collection of clothing at Macy’s.

PM’s: David (Fortitude) and Brandy (Octane)

This was Brandy’s first time being a PM and she had to really be prodded by her team to get her to take it. She admitted right then that she would need a lot of help as her expertise is not fashion. Her concept for the layout was “a day in the life of a Trump man”. Starting with the “Trump” man standing and his “Trump” woman in the bed wearing his shirt. It was risque... and very risky. They were trying to show “wealth, power and sexual prowess”.  I was more than a little worried.

The Octane team seemed to gel pretty well though. When a major error in timing could have really thrown them, Poppy kept her head. The models were a no-show, so Brandy and Steuart had to sit in as models. It was Brandy we saw lolling on the bed in “her man’s” shirt. It came out decent and not too sexual. Brandy said she was fully unprepared, not having shaved her legs and wearing her “granny panties”. I wish I looked that bad... anytime!

On the other side, team Fortitude was being led by unpredictable David. Instead of handing off every task as he did in the past, he chose to micro-manage the entire project. Stephanie sidled up to David, since she was trying to stay away from Anand. The team was obviously divided; Stephanie & David vs. Anand & Poppy.

David had the right idea for a great photo shoot. The models arrived on time. Then things got a little strange. David became visibly enamored with the first model, a good looking guy. At one point David told Stephanie, “If I didn’t have all these kids, I’d go gay!” It was pretty obvious he was likely kidding. Anand definitely saw the man-crush Dave had developed on the model. When he mentioned using other models, Dave turned him down. Then Dave just got rid of Poppy and Anand by telling them to “take care of the models”.

When the pictures were all finally ready, David again refused help from Anand. Clearly upset at being tossed aside, Anand slapped him on the chest and told him to have at the work alone then. That was it, Dave went nuts. “I hate that m***** f*****” he steamed with women sitting all around him. Proving again why he has a long way to go before being truly professional.

Brandy stepped up for the presentation, as would be expected of her after early speaking success. This time did not go as smoothly. Probably due to being in the photographs in her undies, and she had higher expectations on herself. It still went alright. The judges were not offended by the use of the bedroom scene. It was done tastefully.

David, who else, stood up to do the presentation for team Fortitude. Flying by the seat of his pants, he did well in his speaking role. Basically he just explained what his thought process was and his vision. The actual layout was nice, except the last page (the product page). Since very few products were shown in the first three pages, tiny pictures were used to show more products on the back page. It was too hard to see. The back page was the only thing David left for Poppy, but he also gave her zero guidance.

In the boardroom, Donald Trump asked Brandy why they went in the direction they did. She answered with her vision, “wealth, power and sexual prowess”. Trump said, “That last one is the most important!” It was pretty obvious that he liked it and was not offended. He then asked Brandy if she was having an affair with Steuart. “I like older men!” answered Brandy. Donald Trump Jr. yelled, “You’re hired!”

Trump then turned to David and asked who was the worst on his team. Almost without hesitation, David said Poppy was the least involved. Poppy spoke up and said she did the last page alone. Anand spoke up then, and things got a little, um, weird.

Anand told Trump that David had developed a fixation on the first male model. He said “...it was very homoerotic” and “very odd”. Donald Trump looked right at David and asked, “David are you gay?” David was laughing nearly too hard to answer and it was obvious Trump was just having fun. He then pushed it farther asking David, “...do you want to come out?” David turned an even deeper shade of red and giggled, “no”.

Play time was finally over and it was time to see what the judges thought of the adverts. Of the two, they preferred Octane’s “day in the life” campaign. Macy’s will run the advertorial in a collection highlight. Brandy’s team had, in fact, won the task.

The real issues with Fortitude’s campaign was the back page... and the feature model (apple of Dave’s eye). Not really with the model, but the fact that his shirt was at least three sizes too big. The collar floated on his neck and the front of the layout was a closeup so it was obvious. Poppy was in for a defensive night over the back page.

Trump said the pictures were just too tiny. Even though she put them in the shape of a ‘T’, they were too small to see. Poppy said she was given no direction other than the items to be shown,  which is why the pictures had to be so small.

It still fell on David, since he did the lion’s share of work and really wasted the rest of his team. He did man up in the boardroom and tell Trump that it was on him. He was told to let one player leave the boardroom safely, David chose Anand. Stephanie and Poppy sat ready for battle. David didn’t appear to have much fight in him though.

Rather quickly, Donald Trump said his magic words, “David, you’re fired!” Dave thanked him for the opportunity.

In an update David says he has now opened his own company. I have to wonder what business he’s in.

The previews The Apprentice next week look explosive. Teams are called into the boardroom before the task is even announced. Trump has found a cheater, and he’s not having it. Apparently someone has been texting people during the tasks. He read one messaging where the cheater asks someone to come downtown with $50 to spend on whatever task it was.

Definitely set your DVR for The Apprentice  on NBC next week at 109c, you may want to watch this episode again!
