Though "The Big Bang Theory" was likely created to star the nerdy-ness of Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki) , Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) has stolen the show. Parsons won a few Emmies for his deadpan delivery and perfect timing, and the character is such a success that he usually gets more lines than the rest of the cast. I found my ten favorite quotes from Sheldon to share with you here.
1. Sheldon has his own take on most things, including classic Christmas TV. He roots for the sun while watching "Frosty the Snowman":
"Excuse me, but the sun is essential for all life on earth. Frosty is merely a bit of frozen, supernatural ephemera in a stolen hat. A crime, by the way, for which he is never brought to account."
Episode: The Maternal Congruence
2. Sheldon ponders the physics of Superman and other earthly principles:
"Lois Lane is falling, accelerating at an initial rate of 32ft per second, per second. Superman swoops down to save her by reaching out two arms of steel. Ms. Lane, who is now traveling at approximately 120 miles per hour, hits them, and is immediately sliced into three. equal pieces."
In the same episode, Sheldon makes a final statement on his findings:
"Ah, gravity - thou art a heartless bitch."
Episode: The Big Bran Hypothesis
3. Sheldon has the ability to turn the simplest game into one only fit for a physicist, as he does here with the old game of Rock, Paper, Scissors:
"Scissors cuts paper, paper covers rock, rock crushes lizard, lizard poisons Spock, Spock mashes scissors, scissors decapitates lizard, lizard eats paper, paper disproves Spock, Spock vaporizes rock, and as it always has, rock crushes scissors."
Episode: The Lizard-Spock Expansion
4. Though he seems cold, Sheldon does see when his friends are hurting. After Leonard finally gives up on having a romantic relationship with Penny, Sheldon gives him this advice:
"Well, at least now you can retrieve the black box from the twisted, smoldering wreckage that was once your fantasy of dating her and analyze the data so you don't crash into Geek Mountain again."
Episode: The Fuzzy Boots Corollary
5. During a comic book bet with Howard (over the species of a cricket) Sheldon quipped::
"Excuse me! Wolverine Origin, mini series issue two, page 22, retractable bone claws. You know, if you three spent less time thinking about sex and more time concentrating on comic books, we would have much less of these embarrassing moments."
Episode: The Jiminy Conjecture.
6. He does think quite highly of himself (in case you didn't notice):
"You're asking me to use my superior intellect in a tawdry competition. Would you ask Picasso to play Pictionary? Would you ask Noah Webster to play Boggle? Would you ask Jacques Cousteau to play Go Fish?"
Episode: The Bat Jar Conjecture
7. Sometimes he's just plain logical though. Sheldon's thoughts on the size of a sandwich make total sense to me:
"You can't make a half sandwich. If it's not half of a whole sandwich, it's just a small sandwich."
Episode: The Guitarist Amplification
8. Sheldon doesn't dance, imagine that. Here is how he describes his dance skills, or lack there of:
"Penny, while I subscribe to the "Many Worlds" theory which posits the existence of an infinite number of Sheldons in an infinite number of universes, I assure you that in none of them am I dancing."
Episode: The Gothowitz Deviation
9, What happens in Vegas doesn't necessarily stay in Vegas. Sheldon explains his understanding of this grand city:
"You know, I'm given to understand that there's an entire city in Nevada devoted specifically to help people like Howard forget their problems. They replace them with new problems such as alcoholism, gambling addiction and sexually transmitted diseases."
Episode: The Vegas Renormalization
10. Sheldon has an arch enemy, and his name is Wil Wheaton. He has described his dislike of the celebrity many times, here are a couple::
"Well, well, well, if it isn't Wil Wheaton. The Green Goblin to my Spider-Man, the Pope Paul V to my Galileo, the Internet Explorer to my Firefox!"
and...
"I am the proud owner of WilWheatonStinks.com, .net and .org!
Episode: The Wheaton Recurrence
For once the nerdy guy has an opinion and is not afraid to state it to anyone who will listen. For as obnoxious and self-centered as Sheldon appears to be, he'll surely remain one of the best loved geek characters on TV, or at least on "The Big Bang Theory."
