Survivor Tocantins Season Finale: JT Thomas Wins a Million Dollars

Another Survivor Millionaire is Made
CBS Sunday 8/7c 5/17/2009

Survivor, the game of 'outwit, outlast, outplay', looked to have a boring final tribal council this season. With best friends (from the show) Stephen and J.T. making the final two Survivor contestants as planned. The gloves came off when the torches were lit though, and we again saw a blind-side in progress.

Stephen, a well spoken Yale grad, was ready for the interview part of the final tribal council. JT had mentioned the prospects of Stephen talking his way into a winning position. JT made the decision to take Stephen look like a difficult one, but I think it was part of his strategy. He had to keep his word to the end so no one could doubt him being a true 'warrior'... and he would guarantee Coach's vote.

The end of the final tribal council devolved into watching an old married couple (Stephen/JT) argue.

Stephen: "... let's just air our dirty laundry...JT wanted to vote you (Taj) off earlier in the game and I kept you here longer..."
JT: "... is this the same guy I brought with me?... but you would have taken Errin (to the finals)..."

The bromance was over it appeared.

When Jeff Probst went up to count the votes for the winner of Survivor Tocantins, the jury looked satisfied about the prior drama. At the end of the night though, Stephen was the first to jump up and hug the winner JT.

In only the second time in Survivor history, JT took home the prize with a unanomous vote.

Even Taj, blind-sided into 4th place, did not hold any ill will toward JT. She said his name was never even considered for elimination because "you can't find anything wrong with him".

Stephen played an excellent game with the skills he brought. He won the only real mental challenge in come from behind fashion. Stephen played a perfect mind game for survivor, laying low when he needed to and switching thing up when he needed to. He continually complimented JT's mental game as well, to show he was not riding coat-tails of a brute force player. Stephen often said, "...our minds work alike...". While JT often said he felt Stephen was far superior to him in education and thinking. It was the perfect team, and the right person won.

JT Thomas has showed that being a hard worker with character can pay off... big time. Congratulations to both JT and Stephen.

In case you have not had enough of 'Coach', here are some more of his... thoughts.
