In what seemed like a short and easy leg of The Amazing Race, detectives Louie & Michael keep their lead for first place. They have a shot at winning if there are no speed contests in their future, Louie is sadly out of shape.
The 5th leg of TAR 16 started with a bus ride to an 'unknown destination' during the pit stop. It turned out to be France. As the racers got started they had to first find a certain bakery in a nearby town and break the bread open to find their next clue. There was no mention of breaking the bread to find the clue, so only the hungry found it fast.
Steve & Heidi were seen nursing Steve's injured knee during the bus ride, but were still farting rainbows. "I don't think this will slow us down at all," said Steve. Michael & Louie took note of the cocky remark.
Our heroes, Jeff & Jordan, were lost from the start. Jordan had trouble finding the road to the small town where the bakery was, and bitched the whole day. Jeff had to pretty much drag her along the entire leg.
The first detour was either decoding a Morse code message during a WWI re-enactment, or crawling under barbed wire to a soldier in a far off gunner hole. Not surprisingly, no one chose Morse code.
Michael & Louie were first to be done crawling, but had lost a good bit of their lead. At the next clue box there was a Blind U Turn. If played, the couple chosen would have to go back and complete the Morse code task.
Deciding to test Steve & Heidi's resolve, Michael & Louie played the Blind U Turn on them. Ha!
Steve & Heidi finished the task at the same time as Jet & Cord, but had to return to the Morse code task. Heidi still tried to pump the positive energy... but her rainbows slowly turned into storm clouds. The couple sat in the trenches watching the other teams come and go.
Jeff & Jordan finally got to the field and saw Steve & Heidi still working so Jeff stepped it up into high gear. Jordan, however, chose to kick it into reverse. It was hard to watch her meltdown.
Brent & Caite (who just need to go home) missed the clue after crawling through the dirt and barbed wire. The next challenge was a 4 mile bike ride to the pit stop. They checked in, but had to ride back, pick up the clue and return to be officially checked in.
Jeff managed to drag Jordan's ass to the pit stop before Steve & Heidi could figure out the Morse code. Steve & Heidi were eliminated this week on TAR 16. Not nearly as peppy for them at the end of the race, hunkered down in a dark trench. All alone. War over. No rainbows or ponies.
