As I watched the glitz and glam of another Emmy night on NBC last night, I was moved by the "In Memorium" part of the show. I'm always slightly moves me, saying one last good-bye to greats of entertainment. Last night was particularly startling. It seems we lost a rather large chunk of actors and actresses from the 70's.
There were no group deaths in 2010, in the way they struck in 2009. We lost these stars over the entire year. Maybe that's why it did not register how many greats passed. When Emmy producers listed them on screen last night, the impact hit.
Dennis Hopper, Rue McClanahan, Peter Graves, Corey Haim, Gary Coleman, Art Linkletter, Lynn Redgrave, Dixie Carter, Robert Culp, Merlin Olsen, Purnell Roberts, and Soupy Sales.
When you see the group in this manner, all together and gone, you see the impact they left. Though most were done with their Hollywood careers, had it not been for them TV in the 70's would have sucked.
Watching the names go past last night as Jewel sang made me feel very old.
