The Apprentice: Clint You’re Fired, Brandy Wins

What appeared to be a done deal turned out to be a trick of editing for the finale of The Apprentice 2010. Many bets were down on good ol’ boy Clint, after flashing his pedigree in the last boardroom. Brandy managed to match Clint in wordplay in the boardroom and presented herself as every bit as qualified. Donald Trump has stated numerous times how much he admires Brandy. Tonight he proved it by firing Clint and hiring Brandy as the winner of The Apprentice.

We joined the final two candidates tonight halfway through their final task. Brandy was putting on a golf tournament, Clint was presenting a dinner/concert/award ceremony afterward.

When last we saw them, Mahsa was freaking out about the promo material being incorrect. At least they found it early. The problem was the budget. There was not enough money left to reprint it all. Clint came in and calmly made a call, working things out quickly.

Brandy had lost one player, Liza, to golfing with Donald Trump. Her photographer also went to the wrong golf course and would be very late. The other problem was with the pairings. No one on the team has ever played in a team tournament evidently. The Trump team was sent out as a trio, while other groups had five players. Brandy got another player out to the Trump team by the time they hit the back nine.

The other issue on Brandy’s part were the prizes given away for the winners of the golf tournament. When hosting an event for millionaires, don’t go with prizes from Kmart. Liza chose cheap golf club sets (that wound up left behind by the “winners”), while Brandy wanted gift cards. Both are bad ideas. You could have gone with a few very high end clubs or something.

All came out fine, as it always does in the finals for a Trump event. The tournament was hosted by Kathy Griffin, who then passed it to Liza Minnelli for a concert after a buffett dinner.

Clint had put a ton of responsibility on Steuart (who knows the business), to get the dinner done. They had to feed 500 people in an hour, buffet-style. It worked well after some initial congestion at the buffet lines. The bigger issue was Clint running around saying “y’all” every other word. He is charismatic, but it gets old when it’s that thick.

In the boardroom, Donald Trump asked Clint if he milked the good ol’ southern boy act. Clint said it was just who he was and he was not trying to force it. It did not seem forced, I think he was just nervous.

Donald Trump went down the line and asked each who he should hire of the two:
Poppy: though on Clint’s team for the final task she said she’d hire Brandy and was proud to have worked with her this season.
Stephanie: said Clint was disrespectful to Poppy by showing up on the golf course during the tournament... “it was pathetic”... she’s a Brandy fan.
Steuart: said he is impressed by Clint and that he is adaptable and highly educated.
Mahsa: said she had followed him around during the meet and greet before dinner and he was charismatic... “he has that spark, and now I see why he’s in the final two...”. She would hire Clint.
Liza: had she made it to the final two she would have rather gone up against Clint than Brandy. Liza said to hire Brandy.

Next came the feedback from the tasks. Ivanka said she loved Clint’s presentation and there were really no problems. Donald Trump Jr. said the prizes were terrible for the tournament, other than that it was fine. (He did not mention the goof of the teams at tee off time). I pretty much knew at this point that Brandy was going to get hired.

Clint gave a compelling answer as to why he should win The Apprentice. Again telling of his educational pedigree. He called himself a "CEO in a box" and offered to work in Scotland on a new Trump golf course.

Brandy gave a great answer to Clint’s listing of his education and business prowess. She said she’d like to help represent the next generation of the Trump family. Brandy said it would be an honor to work with Ivanka Trump and Donald Jr... and even Eric Trump. It was obvious that she was continuing to impress Donald Trump.

Just as quickly as the first episode started, Donald Trump said, “Clint, you’re fired... Brandy, you’re hired! Congratulations!”

Then Twitter blew up.

Surely there is a great job waiting for Clint. Though he hung his head at the boardroom table, he can hold it high as he leaves The Apprentice 2010 in second place. He played a great game, and it was just a game. We may here of his working in Scotland for Trump after all.
