Week five of the Biggest Loser was a brutal one, both for game play and in the gym. We expect the gym to be brutal, but the game play is lousy. Jillian will likely be on the war path next week, after one player in particular appeared to throw the weigh in. Then, in a surprise elimination, Rick was voted off by his new teammates.
Here’s how the night went down.
First, one player that did not make the original cut was allowed to join the others at the Biggest Loser ranch. The person was chosen in the most fair way possible, by highest percentage of weight loss. Every weigh in should be this fair. Corey, Shanna, Montina, Sandy and Anna were the players vying for the single spot. Anna won with an at-home weight loss of 39lbs, or a whopping 11.82% of her original weight (330lbs down to 291lbs).
Next teams were chosen... by Anna, the newest member of the ranch. Since there was an extra person, Anna was allowed to not choose a team for herself and get immunity or give up it up for a spot on the team she wanted. The left over person would have immunity and join the losing team after tonight’s elimination.
Here are the teams chosen by Anna (she was allowed to talk to each person to see which trainer they preferred).
Blue Team - Bob Harper trainer
Jessica
Aaron
Lisa
Mark
Jesse
Adam
Black Team - Jillian Michaels trainer
Rick
Ada
Frado
Brendan
Elizabeth
...and in a surprise move, Anna chose to take Jillian as a trainer rather than immunity for her first week at the ranch.
Patrick got immunity and would join the losing team after tonight’s vote.
Teams were then off to the first challenge, for a reward of 40 weeks of Biggest Loser meal plans delivered to them at home after the competition. Each would also receive a letter from home. The challenge was a food trivia contest on the streets of LA. If the team answered a trivia question right, they moved on to the next. If they missed, they had to complete a physical challenge. First team to complete all five trivia tests would win.
It was a close competition, but in the end the Black team won. Four of the Black team members chose to give up their letters from home so that four from the Blue team could have them instead. They looked like a nice group... for about a minute.
The Black team was shown almost immediately scheming to throw the weigh in to gain Patrick on their team. Specifically Frado and Brendan. Jillian got wind of it and went after them in the gym. She not only called them out, but forced a team meeting where all promised to do their best at the last chance workout. Jillian explained to the men, in particular, that Anna (the obvious target as the newcomer) deserved to be at the ranch. Anna lost her 3 year old son to cancer and was trying to overcome too many obstacles to do the weight loss on her own.
Jillian even talked to Bob about the game players she had on her team. “You can have ‘em!” Bob told her.
Here is how the weigh in went down:
Player Beginning Weight Ending Weight Loss
Patrick 356 346 -10lbs
Blue Team
Jessica 254 248 -6lbs
Mark 361 352 -9lbs
Lisa 260 252 -8lbs
Adam 346 335 -11lbs
Aaron 419 407 -12lbs
Jesse 321 305 -16lbs WOW!
Black Team
Anna 291 286 -5lbs
Elizabeth 223 218 -5lbs
Frado 317 308 -9lbs visibly nervous
Ada 224 215 -9lbs wow!
Rick 297 287 -10lbs
Brendan 315 313 -2lbs seriously?!
Allison Sweeney asked Brendan if he wanted to amend his statement (about playing it straight) he made prior to his weigh in. He swore on the life of his Goddaughter that he didn’t. Wow, I would hate to be related to him. Brendan continued to swear, later on his grandfather’s grave that he tried his hardest in the gym. That just does not make any sense. He just looked dumb.
After each teammate explained why they should stay at the Biggest Loser ranch, it was time to vote. The fair thing would have been to send Brendan home for his garish game play. Of course, fair is not reality TV.
The votes came down this way:
Anna - voted for Elizabeth
Elizabeth - voted for Rick
Frado - voted for Rick
Ada - voted for Rick
Rick - voted for Elizabeth
Brendan - voted for Rick
In a bit of a shocker, Rick was the 5th person voted off the Biggest Loser season 10. Rick took the news like a man. I knew he would.
In the update, Rick is down to 230lbs at home. He has lost a total of 120lbs so far! It was nice to see him able to play with his grandchildren at home. His wife was as grateful as he was for the Biggest Loser opportunity.
My guess would be that Jillian is going to rake Brendan over the coals next week for his game play this week. She knows it’s a game, and did her best (victoriously) to keep newcomer Anna at the ranch where she belongs. I have no doubt Anna would have been the target had Jillian not sat the men down during the workout.
I’m officially a Jesse and Ada fan now. They both appear to be taking the weight loss the most seriously this season. Adam is up there too, but I think he may have it in him to play the game too. Who are you rooting for to win BL10?
