The Sing-Off Season 2 Finale: Committed Wins

After a long night of Nick Lachey and needless dragging out of the announcement, Committed was finally named winners of The Sing-Off season two. The group will get $100,000 and a Sony recording contract (and of course, The Sing-Off trophy).

Street Corner Symphony finished second. The Back Beats came in third when the votes were read, and Jerry Lawson and Talk of the Town finished a surprising fourth. Not so surprising when you consider the voters of most of these talent shows are young.

The two hour Sing-Off finale event was ...long. It was approximately one hour too long. After the show did such a great night of squeezing an entire contest into five nights, they overdid the gala of the finale. It may have been a blessing in disguise though. The groups all sounded a little rusty in their first outings. By the second hour, when they were back to performing solo and the silliness was over.

Guest performers included: Sheryl Crow, Neil Diamond, and all the judges... and Nick Lachey. I think the camera guys did a number too. Of all the performances with guests, I think Niel Diamond and Street Corner Symphony did the best as a group. Niel Diamond's voice was made for the lead in an a capella group.

The swan songs are some of the best. Unlike American Idol, The Sing-Off contestants pick a song in advance. All AI hopefuls should keep a list of these songs to never sing them during their competition.

Jerry Lawson and Talk of the Town went out with "Hit the Road Jack". Jerry was using a cane tonight for some reason. Maybe it was just festive. The entire group sounded amazing, as usual.

The Back Beats chose to leave with "Good-Bye to You". We'll miss you, hot beat box girl!

Street Corner Symphony left The Sing-Off with "Drift Away". The really did earn second place. I was not impressed the first week, but I wound up really liking these guys. I did not think they earned a win, but definitely turned out to be final four material.

The six members of Committed earned the win tonight with enough popular vote. This was a close season. I think Committed proved themselves worthy with each passing performance. The church group did not do well last season on The Sing-Off. It was really nice to see Committed take things to a new level and show that a church group can get recognized for great voices on national TV. Good luck to them all!
