Wonder Moms of TV Shows

In honor of Mother’s Day this weekend (and “W” in the Z-A in May blogging challenge) I thought I would share my list of wonder moms from network TV shows through the years. Some I chose because they sort of reminded me of my mom, others because they were my dream mom (careful what you wish for).  Here are my ten picks for best TV mom characters.

Lucille Ball “Lucy Ricardo”
Say what you will about her parenting skills in real life, but Lucy was a great TV mom. She was living the first reality TV life at the time too, filming in front of a live audience, the show where she told Ricky she was pregnant was one of the highest rated in history. Lucy oozed love on Ricky (Desi Arnaz Jr.) when they were on screen together, and she managed to care for him while still surviving some mishap or executing a detailed plan.

I've said it since starting this blog on network TV shows, there's no reason to pay the cable company anymore. There are so many entertainment outlets today that if you have a computer and are paying for satellite or cable TV you have too much money. We can now find all of our favorite TV shows for free online if we miss them at their regular air time.

YouTube is the easiest place to find clips or segments of your favorite TV shows immediately after they air. Keep in mind that they may (and often do) violate the terms of the shows, so they are usually removed quickly. However, if you just missed the end of an episode it's a great place to get caught up fast. Just search under the options at the top left for today's uploads to narrow it down to the most relevant videos.

Zenith: The First TV I Remember

There were not a lot of constants in my early home life. One thing that was always there was our old Zenith console TV set. We likely got it used, but it was color so that didn’t matter. It gave a lot of hours of enjoyment over many years.

I remember the old brown chipped fake wood shell on that console TV. The giant knob to turn the channel. Back then, kids, we didn’t have a remote control, that was for rich people. There was no such thing as cable TV yet either. Yes, I’m old, and so was that Zenith when we got it.
