SYTYCD Season 4: Chelsie Hightower and Mark Kanemura 7/31/08

Tonight we see the Final 4 contestants. Chelsie Hightower and Mark Kanemura were eliminated. Leaving us with Joshua, Katee, Courtney G. and Twitch!

How in the world can you choose any of these dancers over the rest. Season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance is definitely the closest. There is no clear leader, I guess Mark has a big personal following though.

Each dancer gave us a solo tonight. They were all really good, of course.

I'll list them as they become available!

We were treated to a break dance solo from 6 year old Lil Demon. Wow, he is awesome!

Katee was sent to the finals first, rightfully so. On the men's side, Joshua quickly followed. Yea! Down to Mark, Steven "Twitch" Boss, Courtney Galiano and Chelsie Hightower.

Chelsie Hightower was tonight's first casualty. Then Mark K., I was surprised since Twitch kept landing in the bottom. Really happy with the Final 4!

SYTYCD : Top 6 Perform 7/30/08

So You Think You Can Dance
is Down to the Final 6!
FOX Wednesday 9/8c 7/30/08

I don't know how in the world to pick the best on this show. It gets harder every season on SYTYCD. Each of these final 6 dancers are incredible in their own right. Tonight proved to be the best yet for the hit FOX show.

Lets break it down.

First up were Mark and Courtney G. with a Viennese Waltz. Finally we get to see a Viennese Waltz in all of its glory! This was actually a Waltz, not a Contemporary wanna-be. Mark finally proved to me he should be in this position. His lines and rise/falls were fantastic. Courtney, I don't like her with a partner, but love to watch her solo. Hmmmmmm....
Glowing reviews from the judges. Song:Time of My Life by David Cook

Chelsie H. was up next with her solo to The Pussy Cat Dolls When I Grow Up. Chelsea showed us a chili pepper Salsa of a solo. It was okay, but didn't really highlight what she is capable of.

Twitch treated us to a Hip Hop solo to The Midas Touch by Morning Star. As always entertainment at its finest, Twitch outfitted himself for the song with a golden 'grill', it was hilarious! But what was better was when Cat Deeley asked to put them on after the dance. "Spit and all," said Cat as she now sported the top 'grill' and the golden sunglasses. Then got a taste of something bad and about gagged!

Up next were Katee and Joshua, thank you magic hat for putting them together again! Dancing to Celine Dion's All By Myself, it was something to see. Though I don't agree with the judges that it was the best ever on SYTYCD, it was special.
The judges pointed out Paula Abdul and Gillian Lynne in the audience. Nigel Lythgoe got bullied into a standing ovation for the pair.

Twitch and Chelsie H. gave us a Mambo. Twitch had to wear his pants up high, he should do this more often! It was one of the better Latin dances this on Season 4 of SYTYCD. I knew Chelsie would hit it, but Twitch stayed down in his feet very well. The judges enjoyed Chelsie and gave Twitch some nice pointers.

Katee soloed to Can't Stop Thinking About You by Maroon 5. I really enjoy Katee's solos, she should be headed for the finals.

Joshua showed us a solo to Like That by Memphis Bleek. He is truly amazing, showing every genre of Hip Hop, doing the splits and coming right back up without using his arms. The highest jumps ever!

Mark and Courtney came back with a Contemporary dance to The Garden by Miria. It was different, the song was very cool, the choreography was weird. The judges loved it, but it looks like they are going to leave it up to the public. Mary Murphy even said it was weird.

Katee and Joshua gave us a Pasa Doble to Filet by LeReve. This was so dramatic. Joshua with no shirt on... we have a winner! At the end of the dance, he dragged he across the stage in true matador style! Mary Murphy screamed twice for them, deafening everyone in North America. Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy both professed that Joshua should "steal the show" if he continues improving his natural talent.

Courtney G. gave us her solo to Rock Your Soul by Elisa. Courtney is a beautiful Contemporary dancer, but her solo got overpowered by Joshua and Katee's dance. Hopefully her fan base won't let her down!

Mark's solo was to Bum Like You by Robyn. Kind of

Twitch and Courtney had the final dance of the night with a Hip Hop routine about 'crazy conductors', to Control by The Vitamin String Quartet. It was the coolest Hip Hop story I've seen this season. In this routine, whoever held the wand controlled the other dancer. Awesome! The judges loved them both, Chelsie more than kept up with Twitch's every move.

This is the toughest season of SYTYCD ever! Two dancers leave tomorrow night and the Season 4 Finale is next week, already. I think it will be, sadly, Twitch and Courtney G. who leave. My guess for the Final 4 dancers are: Joshua, Katee, Chelsie H. and Mark. Man, I hope I'm wrong!

SYTYCD Season 4 Top 18 Performances and Eliminations 6/19/08

So You Think You Can Dance Bids Farewell
To Susie and Marquis
FOX Thursday 9/8c 6/19/08

So I missed you this week, but I did not miss So You Think You Can Dance! This was not my favorite week for some reason, but there were of course a couple of outstanding routines. Included in these were Joshua and Katee, again at the top of my list. Joshua Allen just continues to shine as one of the top male dancers this season on SYTYCD.

Matt D. and Kourtni L. also came back this week with a much improved performance showing why they are on the big stage. The worst of the week were Susie G. and Marquis C. with a bad Salsa dance. I thought it was funny when the choreographers said that Susie was not a Salsa dancer, but a latino street dancer. Salsa dancing is about much more than shaking your hips, if that was all that was needed Shakira would be the queen of all Salsa dancers (which she is not, of course). Susie cried at being described as nothing more than a street dancer, but the truth is a tough pill to swallow. The public obviously has a good grasp on what the dance should be, as they sent Susie and Marquis to the bottom 3 to dance for their lives in the solo format. This early on the judges had an easy call to send home Susie and Marquis, though Chris J. and Comfort F. had a tough time pulling off a Crump routine (Nigel Lythgoe said that his granny is more gansta than Chris J.).

Here are the videos for your viewing pleasure, enjoy!

So You Think You Can Dance - Group Dance [Top 18]

So You Think You Can Dance - Kherington & Twitch [Top 18]

So You Think You Can Dance Season 4 Starts Tonight

So You Think You Can Dance Season 4 Preview
Fox 8/7c Thursday 5/22/08

Finally the best reality on TV is back! This is a talent show, nothing but! There are no Sanjayas allowed. While the premise may be the same, the producers are even the same (Nigel Lithgow), that is where the similarities to American Idol end. So You Think You Can Dance even has trouble finding bad auditions. Well OK, they don't have trouble, but we are not subjected to night after night of idiots.

Here is a preview of the show tonight!

And remember to start those dancers young!

For the animal lover!

And for those who can't imagine dancing in real life:

Dancing With The Stars - Season 6 Finale 5/20/08

DWTS Ends With Kristy Yamaguchi and Jason Taylor Dancing For The Disco Ball Trophy
ABC Tuesday 9/8c 5/20/08

Kristy Yamaguchi finally breaks the curse for the ladies on DWTS Season 6. Read on for the videos and play by play!

I was surprised to see Christian De La Fuentes finish in 3rd place tonight on Dancing With The Stars. Christian and partner Cheryl Burke had seemed to be gathering support in the weeks since his injury. Not for sympathy either, he actually got better when he had to concentrate.

Jason Taylor's football buddies must have wanted to see him dance one more time. He does deserve to be there, Jason has been more consistent throughout the competition than Christian.

Kristy was a given, I think the show would have been canceled if she wasn't in the finals.

This performance from Penn Gilette was just hysterical, check it out. He said his Vegas show is all dance now.

Adam Corolla repeated his Pasa Doble, here it is. He plugged Julianne Huff's Cd and his radio show and said, "... this is why the terrorists hate us... God bless the USA".

The winners of the Junior Champion trophy are Brandon and Brittney. The trophy was presented by the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, Brandon said it was his dream to meet any one of them. He could not stop smiling!

Shannon Elizabeth and Derek did their quickstep followed by Shannon mounting Tom Bergeron and not getting down until after the comments. There is something wrong with her.

Usher put on quite a performance, as usual for him. That's how ya dance... oh, yeah, and sing!

Time for the final dances before the judges decision.

Kristy Yamaguchi leads things off with the Jive, her and partner Mark Ballas' strong suit. Not a missed step, she cannot lose this.
The scores: 10+10+10=30 for a 2-night total of a perfect 90, wow!

Jason Taylor and Edyta followed with a QuickStep, always a crowd pleaser. It was great, the Quickstep is one of the hardest dances, and though his posture is nowhere near professional, Jason never missed a step.
The scores: 10+10+10=30 for a 2-night total of 81. They could pull it off.

Stay tuned for video!

It's down to the public vote from last night.

The Champions Are: Kristy and Mark! Kristy carried her disco ball trophy while hoisted on the shoulders of Jason and Christian.

Dancing With The Stars - Final Performances For The Top 3

DWTS Final 3 Perform
ABC 8/7c 5/19/08

On the final week of voting for Dancing With The Stars, Kristy Yamaguchi came to win. The series has yet to have a female winner, this season should end that.

The show started with a group performance, each couple dancing individually to Lionel Richie's Dancing On The Ceiling. It was a great show starter, and the best way to truly see the differences between the grace of the dancers.

Christian De La Fuentes
impressed me, and the judges, with his hip action. He has improved the most throughout the show, there can be no doubt about that.

The scores: 8+9+9=26

Jason Taylor looked very odd at the Cha-Cha, the dance chosen for the opening couples to perform. He looks fantastic during a waltz or any dance that requires gracefulness, but Jason has very little hip action during Latin dances.

The scores: 8+8+8=24

Kristy Yamaguchi joined the dancing with a big kiss on the mouth for Bruno, one of the judges. It so shocked everyone, they have been begging Kristy to let go and have fun. She did, and it showed! Kristy dances, actually performs more steps than either of the men put together.

The scores: 10+10+10=30

Yep, the second perfect score goes to Kristy Yamaguchi, receiver of the first perfect score.

Kristy and Mark's next dance was a freestyle, sort of a disco mix. It was good,Kristy looked pretty uncoumfortable on the lifts, but they are much harder than the men's have been. And she is not used to a partner flipping her in the air.

The scores: 10+10+10=30!

Jason and Edyta were next with their freestyle dance. The couple have fallen from the top of the leader board to the bottom over the last couple of weeks. Jason finally found his hip bounce, and showed his chest. It was good, not quite as good as Kristy, but definitely better than last week.

The scores: 9+9+9=27 the crowd booed

Next up was Chistian and Cheryl's freestyle performance. I think his injured arm has helped his posture so much that it has made dancing this way easier. Chistian and Kristy are the ones to beat. His lifts weren't as impressive though, they really couldn't be.

The scores: 9+8+9=26

That's it for the dancing on this season of DWTS, now go vote for your favorite!

Dancing with the Stars Elimination Night 5/13/08

No Surprises Tonight As Marissa Jaret Winokur Leaves DWTS
ABC 9/8c 5/13/08

There were no surprises tonight on Dancing With The Stars, as we said good-bye to Marissa Jaret Winokur. Having come a long way on DWTS, Marissa seemed to understand that she is no match for Kristy Yamaguchi's grace or Jason Taylor and Christian DeLe Fuentes general yummy-ness.

Kristy was the first celebrity pronounced safe, followed quickly by the dismissal of Marissa.

Here is the video replay of the dances from Monday night 5/12/08

Kristy & Mark - Jive

Marissa & Tony - Rumba

Jason & Edyta - Pasa Doble

Christian & Cheryl - Samba

Jason & Edyta - Foxtrot

Dancing With The Stars - Elimination Night 4/29/08

Shannon Elizabeth and Her Partner Derek Eliminated From Dancing With The Stars 4/29/08
ABC Tuesday 9/8c

While it should have been Christian de la Fuentes eliminated from Dancing With the Stars this week, it was Shannon Elizabeth. This shows again the power of a loyal fan base.

This reality show is slightly different in that it is solely based on fans. None of the contestants have experience in dance, though this year Kristi Yamaguchi has a clear advantage from ice skating.
It is more about getting a career boost for slipping or lesser known celebrities. Hopefully this will work out well for Shannon Elizabeth.

Dancing With The Stars - Marlee Matlin Goes Home 4/22/08

Marlee Matlin Eliminated From Dancing With The Stars
ABC Tuesday 9/8c 4/22/08

The bottom 2 couples tonight on Dancing With The Stars were:

Marlee Matlin and Fabion
Mario and Karina

Just as I suspected Marlee Matlin has danced her final competition on the Dancing With The Stars stage. There was no final dance to end the show, just Marlee and Fabion in the middle of the stage in a hug. Then everyone came out and joined the hug.

This is Marlee's final dance:

Dancing With the Stars - ABC 4/21/08

Kristy and Mark Get the First 30 Of the Season
CBS 8/7c Monday 4/21/08

Kristy Yamaguchi and her Dancing With The Stars partner Mark stole the show Monday night garnishing the first perfect score of the season.

You knew it was inevitable as they have been on the brink with scores of 29 in the past. Tonight, to a Jive, it happened. I have to admit this dance was along the caliber of So You Think You Can Dance.

The judges were obviously impressed, saying:

Sherri-ann - "Hell yeah! That was my favorite this season"

Len - "That was like a bullfight... a dance smorgesboard... a tasty bit of choreography, yum-yum!"

Mario - "Top-notch, high-definition entertainment! I agree, the best of the season!"

There was really no one else in the running tonight, though others did score high. Marissa and Tony got their highest scores of the season with a Viennese Waltz (score: 26). Marissa almost peed her pants!

Sadly, on the other end of the spectrum, Marlee Matlin had more trouble tonight. Last week was very tough on her, I had to respect that she finished the dance after losing the timing of the music. I probably would have ran off stage crying! Marlee stuck it out, and this week called in moral support in the way of Henry Winkler. Winkler stopped by the studio during rehearsal to offer some obviously heart-felt encouragement to an old friend.

It did not work. Marlee's dance again seemed forced and stilted. It started great, and she looked beautiful, but she may have finally reached her limits on Dancing With The Stars.

Final Scores:

Jason Taylor & Edyta: 8+8+8=24
Shannon Elizabeth & Derek: 8+8+8=24
Marlee Matlin & : 7+7+7=21
Christian DeLaFuentes & Cheryl: 9+9+9=27
Marissa & Tony: 9+9+8=26
Kristy Yamaguchi & Mark: 10+10+10=30
Mario & Karina: 9+9+10=28

Dancing with the Stars: Hot Shots and Who's Not

My Blind Predictions for the Spring 2008 Season

By Sherry W, published Mar 17, 2008

Dancing with the Stars returns with a cha cha this evening on ABC. For die-hard Dancing fans like myself, it's about time. I've examined the articles about the show, scrutinized the contestants, and carefully weighed the potential outcomes. And I still have no idea who will win and who will waltz out of the ballroom in shame this week. So with a blind eye, I offer up my suspicions, in no particular order, about what will happen on Dancing with the Stars this Spring.

Before I proceed, I should check myself and backtrack for a second. From all outward appearances and from what I can glean from my own common sense, one thing is for sure: Poor Julianne Hough is getting hosed...

An Overview of Dancing with the Stars

What You Will See in Dancing with the Stars: In Plain English

By Charles Smith, published Mar 17, 2008

Dancing With The Stars is a reality-based dancesport television show based in the United States, and is televised in Hollywood, CA. The show is actually a spin-off to the UK's version of the show,"Strictly Come Dancing", which came before Dancing With The Stars.

As of the last season, Dancing With The Stars had host Tom Bergeron, and co-host Samantha Harris, along with three competition judges---Kerrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Les Goodman, who judge all of the couples in the show. All of them are likely going to be in the newest season starting on St. Patrick's Day on March 17, 2008...
