Survivor Nicaragua: Good-bye Coach Jimmy Johnson

Survivor 4 Pack (Borneo / The Australian Outback / All-Stars / Pearl Islands)In a bit of a reality TV shocker, former Dallas Cowboy coach Jimmy Johnson was voted off Survivor Nicaragua in tonight’s tribal council ceremony. Drama ran deep all night long on the younger tribe, but struck the deepest at the final meeting of the night.

Naonka came out swinging right from the start. Shown walking back from tribal council last week, she was voiced over saying they were all scared now. She has the majority in her alliance, so Naonka and her drama are likely safe for a few more weeks. Survivor Nicaragua producers are probably hoping she causes drama now, with Jimmy J. gone.

Not that Coach Johnson caused any drama, at least knowingly, on the Espada (older) tribe. Just the opposite really. Jimmy J. was a calming force and the tribe will likely crumble a little emotionally with him gone. However, there are three strong men left on the older tribe so they did not lose any strength. Johnson made the fatal mistake of admitting that he was the weakest player at tribal council. I think that sealed his fate.
At the Immunity/Reward Challenge the older tribe was visibly surprised that Shannon had been voted off last week by the younger tribe. They were not privy to the tribal council confrontation though or I’m sure they would understand. The younger team decided they would not use the Medallion of Power in the challenge, keeping it for later.

The tribes had to retrieve large barrels from a field, line them up like bowling pins, then one at a time toss sand bags to land on top of each barrel. The older tribe was ahead going into the end of the challenge. Tyrone gave them a big lead with accurate throwing. His aim went cold though and Jimmy T. screamed to be put in the game. It was too late, the younger tribe caught up and won the challenge.

Let the drama begin. Not on the losing tribe... drama at the kids’ camp. That drama’s name is Naonka. As the winning tribe, they got a basket of fruit and spices for reward. As Kelly B. went to pick up the basket she saw a note (a clue to the hidden immunity idol). Naonka saw Kelly B. looking in the basket and they both picked up the basket to carry it back to camp. Naonka never took her eyes off Kelly B., the basket or the note.

At first chance back at the camp, Naonka went for the note viciously. She knocked Kelly B. off her feet and squashed the team’s bananas in the process, but she got the note. “You could say I went ‘hood’... I didn’t get ghetto,” said Naonka later. She then was too dumb to figure out the note by herself and had to enlist the help of Brenda. Neither found the hidden immunity idol. Naonka seems extremely threatened by the fact that Kelly B. has only one leg (and is keeping up quite fine).

Marty holds the hidden immunity idol on the older tribe. He found it, then wound up tell the rest of the team on the advice of others. Marty made it quite clear, at least in private, that the idol is completely his, they  just know about it now.

The drama started at tribal council when Marty said he was ready to play the game. Probst tried to make the statement more than what it was, but no one bit. Marty had made it clear with the tribe where he stood and welcomed any votes against Jimmy Johnson. He feels the tribe will crumble and cling. I think he’s right.

What did you think of Survivor Nicaragua tonight? Were you only watching for Jimmy J., or will you continue watching the show?
