Survivor Nicaragua kicked off tonight with a new team line up pitting old against young. The youngsters took full control tonight at the first immunity challenge. One more thing, did you know Jimmy Johnson is on Survivor Nicaragua?
It quickly became obvious that this would be the season of 'Jimmy' on Survivor. We got to see and hear a lot from the former NFL coach. It was impressive to hear him give a team motivational speech. It was underwhelming to see him blowing chunks in the middle of the night. TMI.
The 20 contestants were split up from the start, but not to their tribes (though they did not know this). When they met with Jeff Probst on the island, they were sent looking for a medallion of power to help their tribe. Only after the medallion was found did Probst drop the bomb that tribes would be old vs. young. Over 40 on one side, under 30 on the other. The medallion landed in the younger tribe. Tribal names were given, then ignored for the easier "younger tribe" "older tribe" by Probst.
The medallion immediately changed teams anyway as the younger tribe tradied it for fishing equipment and flint.
When the immunity challenge came, the power of the medallion was revealed. It would give the team who possesses it a lead in the challenge. For some reason the older tribe decided not to use the power, saving it for the next competition. After being used, possession goes to the other team. I like the twist.
Jimmy Johnson managed to dodge a bullet at tribal council. He had made it clear that he is not on Survivor Nicaragua to win a million dollars, but merely for the adventure. It got him through this round. Though it was likely more due to the chatty Kathy speech made by Wendy at tribal council. It was bizarre to watch the votes click in the minds of the other tribe members as they listened to her babbling on about nothing.
Wendy DeSmidt-Kohlhoff (48) was the first person voted off of Survivor Nicaragua.
