Celebrity Apprentice: Gary Busey Continues as Mark McGrath Is Fired

You know what Sunday night means, more drama on Celebrity Apprentice.  Tonight went a little above and beyond the call as NeNe Leakes became a bully toward LaToya Jackson and Gary Busey was saved for more craziness in the coming weeks. Mark McGrath made a fatal mistake in the boardroom that caused him to be fired by Donald Trump. It was obviously just for ratings though.

The task tonight was fairly easy, and boring. The teams had to come up with a marketing idea for a sunscreen product. They had to have something in a glass box (no idea what that was about), and the rest was up to them.

PM’s
Backbone - Mark McGrath
ASAP - LaToya Jackson

The men went right to work creatively, and came up with a pirate theme for their display. It had little or nothing to do with their product, but who cares… they got to play PIRATES! John Rich came up with a chant for them to say too, of course. Actually the men were assuming that Hope Dworaczyk, the Playboy model, would be in a bikini and they would not be able to compete with that.

The women were out to get LaToya, period. Though she did show little to no leadership ability she was never rude to anyone. Not something you can say for NeNe Leakes. NeNe is having a real attitude issue at this point. Maybe The Donald came and told her to boost up the drama or something. The rest of the ladies were not impressed with LaToya either, but they were not rude about it. As they tried to brainstorm, LaToya kept answering them with, “I don’t know” which was not helping.

Hope did step up immediately and offered to be in a bikini to model for the sunscreen. LaToya made her first decision. She made Hope the accountant for the task instead. I guess she thought having her as a model was a little too spot on. Hmmm. The men had hired models to, in Meatloaf’s words, “fight cleavage with cleavage.” Instead it was a fight between pirates and a koala bear.

One thing LaToya is good at is taking notes from the client. She does learn her product. LaToya took notes and got down every point the clients said about their product. The problem was she had no clue how to manage the budget for the task, or even what she really had in mind. It was going to be a beach scene (yawn), then at the last minute she added a winter scene to show the sunscreen as a year round useful product.

Back on team Backbone, Lil Jon was in charge of “costumes, props and Gary Busey.” His job was to basically keep Busey out of the way so the rest could get their work done. He looked done with his babysitting job after about 15 minutes.

When the clients arrived to grade the teams no one was around to watch Gary. He essentially kidnapped the clients away from Meatloaf and proceeded to pimp himself to them as a spokesman for their brand. Seriously. He said they could talk about money later. It was really bad.

While the ladies seems scattered, and they were, they still incorporated all of the points the execs wanted from the meeting. It really had no focus, but it seemed to be what the client wanted. The only drawback was Hope playing volleyball… in a jacket.

When they got to the boardroom it appeared obvious that the women would win, even though the men looked like they had more fun. NeNe Leakes went after LaToya before they even found out the results, calling her a poor leader. When Donald Trump said the execs liked LaToya, NeNe said he could ask the rest of the team and they would agree with her. They did, but in a much more professional manner. NeNe had even ran  (literally) up to Donald Jr. during the task to tell on LaToya. She appeared like a 5-year-old in Kindergarten who’d had their toy taken away.

When Trump turned to the men, before revealing who’d won, Mark McGrath made his ultimate mistake. He told Donald that if they lost he’d have to take the fall since all the rest had worked hard. I seriously think he’d forgotten about Gary Busey and his craziness.

Donald Trump finally announced that the ladies had won. You’d think that would be the end of their drama, but NeNe was not having it. Trump said she could apologize to LaToya in the other room while watching the men. NeNe refused, loudly. She then proceeded to bully LaToya. I have to give LaToya all the credit for standing up to Leakes. NeNe called her “casper” and “ghost” repeatedly and told her to go hide. LaToya stood her ground and did not name call back at all. She gained all of my respect… and NeNe lost any I had for her. I don’t care if she apologized later, she’d better do it now on TV where we can all see it, and then she better get herself a counselor.

Meanwhile in the boardroom, Trump was never going to let Mark McGrath forget that he’d said he’d take the fall if the men lost. He said McGrath said he wanted to quit, which is totally NOT what he’d said at all. The rest of the men began to go after Gary Busey, rightfully so. John Rich pointed out that Gary knew how to behave in the boardroom, and was only “crazy” when working with the team on the tasks. Meatloaf stayed calm, but said to Gary, “we do not WANT to work around you, we are forced to.”

Mark tried to defend himself and tell Trump that Gary had been the ultimate cause of the team’s loss. It was true since the execs did not like the fact that he tried to approach them about being their spokesman. Trump wasn’t having it though. He continued to say that Mark wanted to quit. He finally allowed Mark to call in two celebrities to join him in the final boardroom. Mark chose to only bring back Gary.

The receptionist must have been slamming her fingers in her desk drawer to keep from laughing at the two men in the waiting room. Mark McGrath told Gary to “take a big swim in Lake You and see what you find.” Gary refused to admit he was ever out of line during this or any other task. Imagine that. He knows how to play the game and is doing so quite well. He’ll likely get a bonus from The Donald when it’s all over.

Even Donald Jr. tried to throw Mark a lifeline saying the client was really offended at Gary’s actions during the task. To no avail. Donald Trump fired Mark McGrath unceremoniously on Celebrity Apprentice… I’m sure it’s all for ratings. Trump knows how to play the game too.

So what did you think about Celebrity Apprentice tonight? Should Mark McGrath have been fired, or should it have been Gary Busey?

  1. I think Gary Busey is keeping the ratings up, I mean who is not entertained by his boo boo's?
I lost all respect for Nene, calling La Toya a really really old lady who should act her age. And telling her that the teams win was nothing to do with Latoya. I was disappointed however, that the other ladies did not intervene for LaToya a bit when Nene was clearly going over the line.
I know that if someone talked to me the way Nene talked to Latoya, I'd be crying my eyes out!

  2. I agree, it was classic bullying by Nene and not one person intervened as they should have. Cowards.
