Law & Order - SVU

Another Emmy Worthy Performance From Mariska Hargitay
NBC 10/9c 4/15/08

Mariska Hargitay turned in yet another Emmy worthy performance Tuesday night. Hargitay plays Detective Olivia Benson, on NBC's long running drama Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

This new episode opened with a child being found after having been raped. This is such a horrible subject that is always handled with empathy by this show. The Detectives know that the rapist works somewhere in the prison system, but they can't pin him down without an undercover operation. Since it is a women's penetientary and Detective Benson is the only woman in the SUV, she finds herself in front of a judge being sentenced.

Once inside the prison, it is pretty obvious who the rapist is and where the rapes are taking place. Detective Munch (Ice-T) was also undercover at the prison, as a guard. There was a point when I thought that it had to be a 2-part show, no way could they fit an ending in.

Since the producers had already solved the crimes, getting the 'bad' guy was all that was left. The prison guard (rapist) had dragged Benson to the basement, where all of the rapes occured, and was beating her.

I have never seen such fear on an actresses face as when the assailant was standing in front of her, telling her if she bit him he would kill her.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - The Third Year [5 Discs / Full] -
Detective Munch got there before a rape could actually occur.

This was unbelievably real feeling, I was balled up on the couch watching with clenched fists.

Great writing, acting and directing by all. The real prize goes to Mariska Hargitay for her incredible performance.

Medium - Allison Dubois and A Family Of Psychics

NBC Mondays 10/9c

Medium, staring Patricia Arquette, is a great show on NBC in its fourth season. The show premiered at the same time as Ghost Whisperer, but is better acted. The cast just seems to gel better.

Though Patricia Arquette is not my favorite choice of actresses for this role (she always looks mad, maybe its supposed to be confused), I was continually drawn back by the supporting players. All of the other parts are played with such believability it really helps the show.

Cast:

Patricia Arquette - Allison Dubois
David Cubitt - Lee Scanlon
Maria Lark - Bridgette Dubois
Miguel Sandoval
- District Attorney Manuel Devalos
Sofia Vassilieva
- Ariel Dubois
Jake Weber - Joe Dubois

Medium is easy to follow, as the story lines are single episode (or 2 part). There is no underlying soap opera to follow, so you can miss a week and get right back into the show.

I would highly recommend
Medium as an alternative to CSI: Miami offered by CBS in the same time slot.
Medium: Complete Third Season -
Medium: The Complete Fourth Season [4 Discs] - Widescreen AC3 Dolby
Medium: Four Season Pack [21 Discs] - Widescreen

Survivor Micronesia CBS Thusrsdays 8/7c

After the tribal change up last week, and Joel going home blindsided, the Malakal tribe was tentative.

The Airai tribe had an injured Jonathan to worry about, but he was toughing it out pretty well at first.

The reward competition was a strength and agility test. Each team had 10 minutes to block a tunnel with boards and wood. After 10 minutes, each team switched sides and had to remove the obstacles in the tunnel, get all of their players through, and on a mat to win.

Airai won the challenge, and promptly sent Chet from Malakal and Jason from their own tribe to Exile Island.

Medical was immediately called in for Jonathan Penner's knee. The medic strongly advised Jonathan to leave the game immediately "for the sake of his leg and his life". He was evacuted straight away by boat, then to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery. According to Jeff Probst, Jonathan is recovering and will be fine.

With Jonathan gone, James was now alone on a team of 5 women. He was not comfortable with this situation at all, as he felt they would be better at wooing people to their point of view than him. He has obviously been raised around women, as many men would think they had it made and could easily outsmart the women. Silly boys!

Meanwhile the new Malakal tribe was plotting to get rid of the fans, specifically Chet and Tracy. Cirie seems to still be the vocal leader, while Ozzie thinks he is running things. Ami, from the Faves, decided to flip sides and align with the Fans.

Ozzie found the Hidden Immunity Idol on Exile Island last week (why would you send him there?), then planted a fake Hidden Immunity Idol so that someone else would find it and try to play it.

On Exile Island, Chet told Jason that he thought Ozzie had the Idol so he wasn't going to look for it. He cut his foot on a piece of coral, and wanted to relax and soak it.

Jason headed off to look for the Idol, found the fake one and giggled with joy, not knowing it was not real.

At the Immunity Challenge, Jason and Chet rejoined their tribes. Jeff Probst updated the tribes on Jonathan's condition. Jason suggested to Jeff Probst that Ozzie has already found the Idol, but he still thinks that he found the real Idol (or at least that is what they are leading us to believe).

The challenge consisted of having to balance on player on poles above the water across a span to a platform. When they get 2 players across, they have to go to a platform built for 5 people and fit all 7 of their teammates on the top.

James simple picked up the pole and carried the first player on one pole, with everyone else keeping the pole straight for balance. It was quite incredible. Airai beat Malakal by a mile, Malakal did not even get one player to the platform. Airai wins Immunity!

Back at camp, Chet immediately offers himself to the Malakal tribe vote at Tribal Council. Chet explained that his foot was now infected and he could no longer compete. The Faves of the tribe had no objectives as that was their plan, the fans on the other hand begged Chet to hang on through the Tribal Council and throw his vote their way to backdoor Ozzie.

Chet appeared to be considering voting with them to blind side Ozzie, but in the long run he decided to vote for Erik (a vote he knew would be wasted) and "that should be something they take care of themselves".
So Chet went home, and left them to the tigers.

Amnesia NBC Fridays 8/7c

Dennis Miller is hosting a new game show called Amnesia, Fridays on NBC. I wish I could forget it.

The latest in a string of new NBC game shows (Deal or No Deal, 1 vs. 100, My Dad's Better Than Your Dad) born in the wake of the the writers' strike. I can't tell if Miller is enjoying himself or just laughing all the way to the bank. Miller appears to be trying to keep it clean and upbeat, but every week (this is the 4th) has gotten a little closer to his stand up.

I like Dennis Miller because he is sarcastic and doesn't seem to care for other people's feelings. So it seems a bit forced to watch him have to root for someone to win money, when you just know he wants them to miss the question so he can make fun of them.

I don't think this one will last for NBC or Dennis Miller. I miss him on The Dennis Miller Show on talk radio.
