SYTYCD Season 5 Elimination Night 6/18/2009

After an awesome opener choreographed by Mia Michaels, the second week of eliminations got started on So You Think You Can Dance.

The first 3 couples to take the stage with Cat Deeley were:

Phillip & Jeanine
Jason & Caitlyn
Ade & Melissa

Jason and Caitlyn were the first to be told they had to dance solos tonight.

Brandon & Janette
Jonathan & Carla (my fave from last night)
Kapono & Ashley

Kapono & Ashley were the second couple to head to the solo round.

Evan's brother Ryan is on to Vegas for Season 6 of SYTYCD!

Next up for results were:

Evan & Randi
Osuka & Vitolio
Max & Kayla

This had to be the toughest group.
Max & Kayla join the others for solos.

Caitlyn was first up. Dancing to "To Make You Feel My Love". I did not enjoy it that much, but it was not bad.

Jason, dancing to "Superman" by Robin Thicke. He is good. I think he did well with his solo.

Ashley, dancing to "By Your Side" by Coco Rosie. Not the best solo, but she is different enough to stay.

Kupono, dancing to "Many Moons" by Janelle Monae. He is weird too, but may be too weird. It is hard for him to partner.

Kayla was up next dancing to "Walking on Air". She had a stumble during her slide. It was not a great solo.

Max was up with "Footloose" by Kenny Loggins. Now Max is in it to win it. He did a big solo with lots of great footwork and choreography. Nice to see when they are excited to dance. Max should be safe tonight.

Based on solos, Kayla and Kupono may be in danger (the guys was really tough to choose).

Caitlyn: judges loved her solo
Ashley: judges were disappointed in her solo
Kayla: judges thought her solo was crowded

Ashley is the first to be eliminated tonight. That does not bode well for Kupono.

Jason: judges thought his solo was exceptionally strong and is safe!
Kupono: judges thought there was very little substance to his solo tonight, but he goes beyond the dance.
Max: judges thought no one works harder than him.

Max was the second dancer eliminated tonight on SYTYCD Season 5.
I'm really surprised at that. Max did far better on his solo, it must be his limits beyond ballroom that the judges feared.

Nigel Lythgoe told us that the judges were split on both elimination decisions tonight. It was a tough night, but it's the most talented show on TV. It only gets harder from here!
