Howie Mandel Is Back and He’s “Mobbed”

Howie MandelHowie Mandel hosts "Mobbed"Cover of Howie Mandel
Tonight was the premier of Howie Mandel’s new show “Mobbed”, which he told us about last night from the audience of the live American Idol show. FOX is giving the new show every chance with the spot immediately following the AI elimination show. Looks like they have high hopes for it, and so do I after watching.

In the pilot episode we saw what we are in for as a hopeful boyfriend planned to propose to his girl using a flash mob. Howie made it clear that they are looking for literally any big event in your life to celebrate this way. Here is the general idea of a flash mob if you don’t already know.

Tabitha and Napoleon from SYTYCD were the choreographers for the mob and the groom-to-be. When they saw his dance moves Tabitha said it was obvious they were working with “raw material.” I thought that was cute… lucky for her she’s never seen me get my dance on.

All seemed to be going as planned when Howie Mandel decided to throw in an unnecessary curve ball. He wanted to mix in a jealous old girlfriend before the dancing started. It was really a pointless joke and just upset Nikki, the bride-to-be. They could leave that stuff out from now on. Just be a good guy Howie.

When all the silly drama was over an excuse was made to get the groom out of there, then the waiters asked her if she was in love and if it was an everlasting love…. And then the real fun started. With all the waiters singing “Everlasting Love” and then all the people at the tables dancing in their seats I was already close to tears. The doors opened and she was met by more dancers who led her outside where the entire Disney park seemed to be waiting to mob her with more dancing. There were a ton of people all singing and dancing and even a marching band.

When the band parted and she saw her man standing there in a tux it was all over. We were both crying. I’m such a sucker for stuff like this. I was half laughing half crying the rest of the hour. He came down and did a little dance of his own for her before finally popping the question. After she said yes he nearly put the ring on the wrong hand he was so nervous.

Then came the second part… he asked her to marry him right there, right now. She hesitated, and you could see her wanting to wait for her family. When she said “yes” the mob went crazy again. She was whisked into a wedding gown (not a pretty one, but come on it was spontaneous), and from behind the band came all of her girlfriends from home. As she walked down the quickly assembled aisle, with the mob still singing and dancing, she finally saw her family waiting for her and dancing too. It really was awesome.

I’m glad “Mobbed” is a good show and hope it continues to have happy endings. I could do without any silly drama type jokes though. They aren’t necessary.

If you want to surprise someone they are still taking apps at the “Mobbed” site. It looked fun!

  1. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the show!!! I can't say enough about it!! At least this first one!! Couldn't have been better! Well, um except for one little part that you mentioned; the "jealous" factor! THAT was just totally mean!! But, I believe that was all forgiven, and they truly do seem to be perfect for each other! I pray that the good Lord will guide them through a life of love and understanding; I would love to see this couple last a lifetime!

  3. "Feel Good" show which is over the top and insane in a good way. We are looking forward to future episodes.Looks like a lot of effort on the part Mandel & his crew to put this together and it paid off. I agree that they could have lost the jealousy skit, it put too much of a damper on an otherwise outstanding show. The prospective groom and his wedding party also put a lot of themselves into this spectacular.

  4. I can't believe the reviews this show is getting or people talking about how much they LOVED this first episode. I thought everything ended up feeling staged and too polished... to the point I was wondering if it really was all fake.

The show did well because people are too lazy to turn the channel after Idol. People continue to watch this kind of crap and then wonder why we are over run with tons of stupid, mindless reality shows... while the good reality shows like Shark Tank stay close to cancellation.
