I admit I was not a fan of The Biggest Loser from the start. Then I saw a few more episodes.. and a few more. I am now a fan of the weight loss program. My biggest issue with the show was the game play part. Just help them lose weight! Now I’m starting to understand it better. I think I finally ‘get’ it. Season 10 of The Biggest Loser kicked off tonight with some of the saddest stories to date.
While other reality shows are moving to the sad story background to gain viewers and votes for their contestants, this is the one show where they belong. Sad stories don’t affect your voice for singing, they don’t affect your legs for singing... they have everything to do with obesity. The stories of the season 10 contestants are the most heart wrenching yet.
Obesity affects more than just the contestants on The Biggest Loser, it affects their families directly. We want these people to win (by losing) so their families can win too.
The season starts as it ends, with a weigh in. Not everyone who tries out makes the show, not even of the three final contenders forced to weigh in publicly in front of their towns. No, nothing is given to these reality show contestants. It was eight a one mile walk/run or 500 steps on a single stepper. They were not alone, and that’s part of the endearment of the show. The entire crowd did the exercises with the contenders.
Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper were there to encourage all the contestants and rally behind anyone who needed an extra push. You may think either one or both of the trainers on TBL are hard asses, and they are, but if you show them you are giving everything you have they are there for you too.
Even after all the medical testing prior to the rigorous challenge, a couple of the hopefuls still had to go to the hospital without finishing. While sad, it proves just how much they need to lose weight. Both are very young (and did not require hospitalization).

You can’t teach what you don’t know. Learning how to be healthy is hard work, and it’s fun to learn right along with them.
