AGT 2010: Season Favorites Compete for a Second Chance

Howie was tweeting during the opening of the live show. Nick Cannon had to pull him away from his phone to start the show. Tonight was the final round of quarter finalists on AGT 2010. The judges brought back their favorites. Here is a run down on the night’s live events.

1. Kruti Dance Academy - dance group
The Bollywood group is back. I like this style of dance and can see it being a hit as a Vegas show. This group may deserve a shot at the semifinals. It was not a wow performance though. This was Piers Morgan's choice to bring back.

Howie Mandel: " ...I agree and disagree... is what you do "wowo"...I don't know that you rise to the level of this show now..."

Sharon Osbourne: "as a halfwit... I think now that America has become used to the Indian character...you could have the Kruti dance in like the river dance..."

Piers Morgan: "...well I think my decision has been completely vindicated [to bring them back], I didn't want to lose you in Vegas, I lost out to these two halfwits...as America has seen you have talent..."

AGT 2010: Jackie Evancho, Dan Sperry & Maestro Alexander Bui Advance

After reading many of the reviews of last night's America's Got Talent YouTube contestants, I think we may have been a little harsh. Myself included. I forgot these people have never been in front of a major audience, let alone on live TV with judges. That being said, the rules are what they are and they play no favorites. So four more acts were advanced to the 2010 AGT semifinal rounds.

Nick Cannon called out the first group of YouTube contestants: Pup, Pizza Patt, Maestro Alexander Bui and Austin Anderson. Cannon asked Sharon Osbourne who she thought America voted for. "Oh, I just don't know!" said Osbourne. Seriously? How stupid does Sharon Osbourne think the American public, even those that watch and vote on talent shows, really is?

America's Got Talent 2010: Quarterfinals for YouTube Talent

The 5th week of quarterfinal competition on AGT 2010 ended tonight with the YouTube contestants taking the stage. Here are the 12 acts and the judges comment.

1. Plutonic - singing group
Great voices in this acapella group, and I must say I did not expect the rap from this group of geeky white dudes. They did it justice...except I could understand the words (first time for a rap song for me). Piers oughta like that he can understand the words too.

Howie Mandel: "... regardless of whether you like acapella or not, you are talented... I think people would go see something like this... and I think the name is perfectly fitting because I think those are the type of relationships you will have with the ladies."

Sharon Osbourne: "...your performance was really good guys... however I hate acapella groups..."

Piers Morgan: "...you are indisputably geeks... you are incredibly cheesy... but I liked it"

2. Dylan Plummer - acrobatic jump roper
Dylan Plummer can jump rope! It was a cool act and a different one. He might have missed a couple of jumps but it was fun to watch.

Howie Mandel: "... you had a couple of misses there didn't you ...you need tome to perfect it..."

Sharon Osbourne: "... very quick feet you've got... the transition is great.. you did very well..."

Piers Morgan: "...I was pretty surprised... I was waiting for you to make mistakes so I could buzz you and you didn't..."

AGT 2010: 4th Week of Live Quarterfinals

This is the 4th week of live quarterfinal competition on America's Got Talent. Only four act will move on to the semifinal round. This seemed like the toughest night for AGT contestants, as far as competition and the talent level.

1. Da Maniacs: dance crew
I was prepared to hate this group of misfits on the dance floor. I must admit I had fun watching. They were not a train wreck and in fact, they were pretty good dancers. There was one small wardrobe malfunction, but it did not slow the groups performance. Neither did the buzzer from Piers Morgan.

Howie Mandel: "...it's a lot of fun, but... are you the guys from last week?..."

Sharon Osbourne: "...we are not true professional dancers, but you are entertaining..."

Piers Morgan: "... I do like you, you are very entertaining in a strange manner... there's already a competition show for you, it's called "The Biggest Loser"..."

2. Nu Covenant - singing group
Singing "Too Late to Apologize" something was just really bad with the harmonies tonight. They were completely off. Both Sharon and Piers buzzed the group. It was really not good.

Howie Mandel: "... this is live television..the weight of that showed...you were flat"

Sharon Osbourne: "... you look incredible...the harmonies weren't happening tonight, that's why I buzzed you..."

Piers Morgan: "...you were flat as a pancake for most of it...pop songs are just not your thing...wrong song choice... I like you."

AGT 2010: 3rd Live Quarter Final Results Show

Nick Cannon started off the night on America's Got Talent asking Howie Mandel about his comments on the 'wow factor' last night. In fact, he called him "Howie Wowie" after the judge repeatedly chastized acts for not having a wow moment. Howie explained to Nick that "wow means wow, if there were another word for it I would use it."

Piers Morgan jumped in to throw a few bashes Howie's way calling him "Howie Halfwit" after the comedian's choices thus far in the comedy category. This is well deserved, I think, since the comedy acts have been atrocious this year on AGT.

Howie Mandel battled back saying that Piers Morgan is doing the PR circuits and "besmirching his name". Howie went on to refer to Morgan as a "besmirch-er" when they later were confronting Chipps Cooney, the source of the trouble last night.

The live results finally got started as Nick Cannon called the first three acts to the stage: South Philly Vikings, CJ Dippa and Haspop. I got a fleeting sick feeling that young rapper CJ Dippa might beat out the amazing dance of Haspop. Luckily America got it right and voted to send Haspop on to the AGT 2010 semi finals. I was a little shocked to see CJ Dippa leave so early. I thought he would be a possible judges pick tonight.

Dance crew and former AGT contestants, Jabberwocky, took over the stage next. There is a reason these guys are now headlining a show at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Jabberwocky reach out and grab the audience from the costumes, complete with white masks, to some of the best hip hop ever.

AGT 2010: Week 3 of Quarter Finals Live Performances & Judges Comments

1. South Philly Vikings: dance group
they looked good in costume, but there was not much substance their dance. Just a lot of walking around. Piers Morgan used his first 'X'.

Piers Morgan: "...it's just overgrown children in robot costumes... I just see a bunch of people who don't sing and don't dance very well..."

Sharon Osbourne: "...I would like to apologize for my English friend.." , to which Piers Morgan corrected her that he is Irish, not English. "...all of you blue collar guys that have no training... I think it's really good entertainment."

Howie Mandel: "... I don't know what category it is... it's amazing what you can do with tin foil and holiday lights... it's like a craft project on steroids..."

2. CJ Dippa: Rapper
CJ is talented at the young age of eleven (or one one, as he told Piers last time). He can rap and he writes his own rhymes. You have to like rap though. He has a big attitude for a little kid. It might help him, it might not. Oh, he can dance better than Bieber too.

Piers Morgan: "... this is my world... on the negative side I couldn't understand a single word you were saying, on the positive side I can't understand any rapper..."

Sharon Osbourne: "... it's brilliant... I didn't realize what good dancer you are..."

Howie Mandel: "...that's whats impressive...the fact that you bring your own original beats..."

3. Harmonica Pierre: harmonica player
This guy is probably the best harmonica player I've ever heard. He went from a classical opening to a version of "Hey Soul Sister", pretty bold since Train was just on the show last week. A good performance tonight, but I'm not sure he deserves a main show spot.

Piers Morgan: "... I know where Howie's coming from... what is indisputable about you is you ...are one of the best harmonica players I've ever seen."

Sharon Osbourne: "... I love what you did ... I love the way you mixed around your material tonight..."

Howie Mandel: "... I think you did fantastically... you are truly and expert and truly a talent... I'm not sure about the harmonica... like the music at my doctor's office..." true.

AGT 2010: Michael Grimm, Alice Tan Ridley, Ascendance & Antonio Restivo Coast to the Semi Finals

Cirque Du Soleil & Train Perform on Live Elimination Night

Wednesday night is time to find out who moved on to the semi finals on America's Got Talent. We were also treated to a performance by Cirque du Soleil, always entertaining. The band Train hit the AGT stage later with their hit "Hey Soul Sister".

Again Nick Cannon called out the acts in groups of three. The first three acts are voted through by the public, the last act is chosen by the judges.

The first acts called out were: Ascendance (rock wall dancers), Mona Sampath Dance Co. (Bollywood dance group) and Ronith (comedian?). Thankfully we will no longer have to guess as to what the talent is that Howie Mandel sees in Ronith. Ascendance was the first act voted into the AGT 2010 semi finals tonight.

Alice Tan Ridley (singer), Iron Horse (band) and Cheer SF (cheerleading squad) were called out for the next group. The obvious crowd and AGT judge favorite was Alice Tan Ridley and in this group she was the easy choice. America followed suit and voted a thankful Ridley through.

AGT 2010: Second Week of Quarter Finals Live

Tonight was a tough night for America's Got Talent. It started slowly, lagged in the middle and there was little or no bang at the end. There were a few talented acts, but Piers Morgan used his 'X' button nearly as much as during auditions. NBC must be really cutting budgets this year to need to fill up this many weeks with AGT acts.

At least we did not have to wait long for Alice Tan Ridley. The mother of Academy Award nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe ("Precious"), took the stage looking absolutely stunning. She sang "Midnight Train to Georgia" with the feeling of Gladys Knight and all three Pips, earning herself a standing ovation from all three judges. Ridley has been singing in the subways to earn money to support her family, and now says it's time to come out "into the sunlight". Welcome to the warmth Alice.

Finish article now or read on for full AGT judges comments and quotes.

AGT 2010 Quarter Finals Act 1: Cheer SF
A multi-age cheer group doing exactly what you would expect. Not much new here.
Piers Morgan: "... it was all a bit sophamoric"

Sharon Osbourne: "...I loved your enthusiasm... I thought it should be more sophisticated..."

Howie Mandel: "... it wasn't as technically amazing as some [of the other acts]... I like the fact that you have all ages..."

First Live Night on America's Got Talent: Fighting Gravity is the Act to BeatAmer

The first 12 acts took the stage live tonight in the America's Got Talent quarter finals. Only four will move on to the semi finals. Judging from tonight's performances it may be tough to find four in this group.

Here is how the night played out on AGT.

First up was Kung Fu Heroes, a combination of martial arts and dancing. They were okay and may have wanted to go easy in case of opening night nerves. They better go bigger if they get to come back for the semi finals.

Piers: "... it wasn't as mad as in your audition..."

Sharon:"...it was more like a martial arts exhibition."

Howie:"...it's the choreography that was weak..." and then described the group as "Power Rangers with eye shadow".

AGT: Last Week of Auditions for Vegas

This was the final week of state auditions for America's Got Talent. The latest crop of talented Americans are now off to Las Vegas. You just can't get more American than Vegas.

It's hard to pick any favorites since we have only seen a handful of acts that have a real chance of winning AGT. I set off to find a few clips of what I think are the acts to watch this season.

Don't worry if you don't see your favorite act, I included a link watch full episodes of AGT 2010 at the end.

And don't forget to vote for your favorite act at www.youtube.com/AGT

America's Got Talent: Final Performances 9/14/2009

Finally night is finally here on America's Got Talent! With Susan Boyle as a guest on the 2hr finale, this should be a fun show. I hope they all do well, I like all the acts this season.

My dark horse pick is Drew Stevyns, so I hope he brings it tonight. He will have his hands full with Lawrence Beeman and Kevin Skinner as the other male vocalists on AGT.

My absolute favorite act this season on AGT is Recycled Percussion. They have surprised me with every performance. I think they would be the most obvious choice for a Las Vegas show and could definitely rock the house for 90 minutes.

Here is how it went down:

Voices of Glory: "Greatest Love of All" by Whitney Houston
The boys took the judges advice and bowed to their talented little sister. This little 9 year old is a great singing talent. This song was a little too big for her, but they were still strong. It was one of their better harmonies too.

Hairo Torres: Music montage
While I would love to watch Hairo Torres for hours dancing his ass off. He did really well, but I think he got a little sloppy in the middle. Okay, he was spinning on his head... but if you are a pro, you do it perfectly. Hairo Torres has huge potential, but I agree with Piers. I don't think he did enough. I liked Hairo with the group, he really stood out as a star.

Lawrence Beeman: "You're the First, My Last, My Everything" by Barry White
Lawrence Beeman went with his strengths tonight. It showed. He looked relaxed. I still was not crazy about the song choice, it was a little boring. Lawrence has a real chance at winning though. He just needs to work on his stage presence.

Barbara Padilla: Opera (sorry)
Barbara Padilla is the shoe in to win this America's Got Talent season. It's going to come down to the country music lovers vs the opera lovers. Now which ones do you think watch more AGT? Either way Barbara Padilla will no doubt sign with any opera company she wants after this.

Fab Five:
This dance group of sisters are truly talented. They could be the surprise ending for AGT. I hate the 80's outfits, but the dancing is great. I think they could easily fill a 90 minute time slot. The Fab Five definitely put a younger feel to this act and I thought it worked again for them.

Texas Tenors: "My Way" by Frank Sinatra
Well I said it may come down to opera fans vs country music fans. What does that mean for three opera singing cowboys. The Texas Tenors are a strong group, but I don't think they have enough to win.

Drew Stevyns: "I'll Stand By You" by the Pretenders
Drew Stevyns is a cross between Rob Thomas and Chris Daughtry, two of my favorites. I think he picked a great song for his voice and milked it for all he could. I would buy a Drew Stevyns CD. Sharon Osborne with the comment of the night "your trousers could be a bit tighter", and "no it's a compliment, shows I've been looking at his... stuff all night!"

Grandma Lee: Comedy
No doubt about it, Grandma Lee is out of this race unless America does some strange voting tonight after AGT. She is pretty funny, but not 90 minutes in Vegas funny. I think Grandma Lee will do great on the talk show circuit. Best joke "Piers is sweating like Ryan Seacrest watching Broke Back Mountain". Oh, and she came out very pregnant. Piers called her a "shameless little hussy"... who needs Paula and Simon.

Kevin Skinner: "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith
Surprising song choice for Kevin Skinner, the chicken farmer turned country singer. Kevin had a great start, but he lost his glow a few weeks ago for me. I think this was his worst performance. It sounded flat throughout the song. Too bad, I like Kevin Skinner. I have no idea what the judges heard, but it was not what I heard.

Recycled Percussion: "Wipeout"
Loved it from the start! This is the perfect start for this noise band. I was a little disappointed with the ending, but it was awesome. This is the act that is built for a Vegas stage show right now. With two drummers drumming, one guitarist whaling and a DJ.... add water and fire, what's not to love? These guys still get my vote!

That's it, now go vote! Vote Now

America's Got Talent: My picks and faves

My picks for this season of America's Got Talent are pretty easy: Kevin Skinner or Recycled Percussion. Those are two acts that would have never found the same stage had it not been for this talent show, that's why I love AGT.

I really like Grandma Lee, but I don't see watching her for a whole show in Vegas. I'm sure she would do it and do it well, just not for me.

My other dark horse of this season of AGT is Drew Stevyns... last time, WOW! I would definitely listen to that gravelly voice, over and over. I think I broke YouTube the other day watching his video of "How to Save a Life"... I like it far better than the original.

I'll try to find some videos but NBC seems to be quite snarky about not allowing them off their site, so here is a link to all the most current updates too: America's Got Talent

America's Got Talent Kicks Off the New Season 6/23/2009

America's Got Talent kicked off the latest season complete with a new host, Nick Cannon. I was a big fan of Jerry Springer hosting. Nick Cannon really surprised me! I really enjoyed Nick Cannon and his interactions with the contestants.

As with all talent shows America's Got Talent started with mostly bad acts and just a glimpse at the talent that is to come in the next few weeks. It looks promising though!

Footworks Kings:

The Voices of Glory:
If this family trio does not make you cry (or at least feel great), there is something wrong! All of the judges were choked up (especially Sharon Osborne), and Piers Morgan was the first to stand and applaud them saying, "Brilliant".

Rockin' Rory (the Australian Shepherd):
This dog is truly amazing!
And I loved the fact that Rory continued to 'mind' the discs after the act was over!

David Johnson: Ok, this was just kinda funny.

That is all the videos available for now. I will post more as they become available!

Joan Rivers vs Annie Duke in a Celebrity Showdown

Final 2 on Celebrity Apprentice
NBC Sunday 9/8c 5/03

Well the top five got whittled down to the final four tonight on the Celebrity Apprentice. With the firing of Clint Black, the final four are:

Joan Rivers
Annie Duke
Brande Roderick
Jesse James

First things first. The first task of the night was to write a 30 second jingle and commercial spot for Chicken of the Sea.

Team Athena, Annie Duke and Brande Roderick looked sick. Having to write a jingle against a country music star. Team KOTU, Clint Black, Joan Rivers and Jesse James looked smug.

Brande Roderick, bless her beautiful heart, is tone deaf. It's okay, she knows it and admitted it. That only made it funnier. I'm still chuckling at her feeble attempts to sing a jingle. Not that Annie Duke was much better, but it's hard to keep a tune with Brande. Oh man, she was priceless.

Clint Black took over on KOTU as project manager, again. It made sense this time, but still no outside input was allowed. Joan Rivers and Jesse James put together the commercial part.

The boardroom was slanted to team KOTU, as Annie Duke and Brande Roderick agreed that Clint Black's jingle was better. The tuna folks (or is it chicken?) did not agree. The liked Annie Duke's jingle better and Brande Roderick's commercial. Clint Black looked sick. Apparently the tuna dudes didn't think enough people would enjoy country music. Hmmm. Clint just chuckled (into his bags of money).

Just like that, Clint Black was fired by Donald Trump.

All that was left was the interview process to get down to the final two. Last Celebrity Apprentice winner Piers Morgan was the interviewer. His reports to Trump were:

Brande Roderick: "...she's not smart enough to win...It would demean your show to have her in the finals."

Joan Rivers: "...I thought the attack on Annie Duke (calling her Hitler) was over the top... the venom... to get as far as she has, amazing..."

Annie Duke: "...I love the cool face... as long as she's got the money at the end of the rainbow, you can say anything you want about her, she doesn't care."

Jesse James: "...confounds me the most... when he looked at me when I talked about his wife, he wanted to kill me with his bare hands. I want to see a lot more of that..."

This was obviously a not so dramatic build up to the Joan Rivers/Annie Duke showdown. No surprise, though unnecessarily brutal, Trump fired Brande Roderick first. He called her a dumb blond and told her what Piers Morgan said (really not cool). Brande brought in more money than Jesse James and worked just as hard. Not that it matter since Jesse was next to exit.

Jesse could not defend his lack of fund raising. Trump expected him to hit up his wife Sandra Bullock. Both Piers Morgan and Donald Trump questioned Jesse relentlessly about why in the world Sandra Bullock would pick him.

*Note to all men: Power isn't everything. (See you thought I was gonna say size matters, but I didn't.)

So there went Jesse James, fired in the same boardroom session.

The Celebrity Apprentice showdown between Annie Duke and Joan Rivers airs next Sunday night on NBC.

Piers Morgan Wins the Celebrity Apprentice

Trump Fires Nice Guy Trace Adkins
CBS Thursday 9/8c 3/28/08

The Celebrity Apprentice Finale lived up to the hype. Finally an Apprentice season worth watching, with men who know how to defend themselves in the Boardroom. Two completely different styles clashed as Donald Trump pitted Piers Morgan against Trace Adkins.

Piers Morgan, the Brit most known for in the U.S. for co-hosting the show America's Got Talent, is quite well known in Europe. Portrayed as the ruthless, money-grubbing foreigner, Piers raised nearly $400,000 for the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund in the final task alone. The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund supports soldiers returning from the war with disabling injuries. There could be no argument that Piers Morgan knows what real money is, who has it, and what it will take to get it from them. Then Piers does what it takes. No more, no less.

Trace Adkins, the All-American cowboy (with a undeniably incredible voice, both speaking and singing), was playing for his daughter with severe food allergies. Trace's charity, The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network(FAAN) , supports research for the over 12 million Americans afflicted with severe food allergies.

For the task, Piers was in charge of Auction part, and Trace was in charge of the Backstreet Boys. Both had their hands full.

Piers picked Stephen Baldwin (I think just to keep Stephen from actually working for Trace), and Carol Alt (who he ignored). Piers filled the auction with incredible packages, and Stephen failed again to get anyone to answer his calls. Piers called in his friends, enemies, and people he had never met but knew they had money. Even a phone-in bid from Simon Cowell for $100,000 (for a shopping trip with Ivanca Trump).

Trace Adkins picked Lennox Lewis (so that he would not work for Piers) and Marilu Henner. He then had to contend with the Backstreet Boys (to which he asked, "Aren't they the Backstreet Men by now?"). The Backstreet Boys now need to come out with a press conference explaining that they were required to be extremely whiny and childish so that it appeared to be a hard task. The Backstreet Boys appeared to
need black fingernail polish and wheat grass juice(?), or they may not be able to perform.

In the end, the auction and Backstreet Boys concert were a huge success.

Back in the Boardroom, Donald Trump had a hard decision to make.
Donald Trump: Profile of a Real-estate Tycoon
Piers Morgan raised more money, on the last task alone, than all of the other contestants combined for the entire show. His team won 9 out 11 tasks. He always raised the most money, even the 2 times his team lost.

Trace Adkins is loved by all, and has something that make you want him on your side. Trace makes people want to put out their very best effort for him, they want him to succeed and will do anything they can to support him. He is not good at asking for money. While a proud characteristic in a man, a horrible one for a fund raiser.

At the end of the day, there was no real decision to be made. Nice guys finish last in business. I'm sorry Trace.

Piers, you're hired!

Celebrity Apprentice Thursday NBC 9/8c

Now Omarosa Free!

Oh my! After the absolute pummeling given to Omarosa last week by Piers Morgan, the post Board Room party was for two, Piers and his ego. He giggled and and politely put down Omarosa (deservedly so) for the first five minutes of the show. Piers immediately apologized to Trace Atkins for kissing him to end last weeks show, Trace laughed it off after the initial shock. Lennox Lewis chimed in that it would now be called "Broke Back Board Room".

On to the challenge, this week the teams remained the same (Trace Atkins, Stephen Baldwin vs. Piers Morgan, Lennox Lewis, and Carol Alt). Each team must create an original Quizno's sandwich and sell as many as they can. The hitch, no rolodex this time, Donald Trump wanted only "man on the street" sales.

Team Empressario, Trace Atkins and Stephen Baldwin, decided to try a complete original sandwich literally, with Trace as the Project Manager. The sandwich was the Cowboy Club, consisting of: Prime Rib, mozzerella cheese, grilled onions, bacon, and Chipotle sauce on flat bread.

Team Hydra, went to Quizno's first with Lennox Lewis as the figurative Project Manager (and Piers running things). The team (Piers) decided to ask the owner of Quizno's what the resturaunt's number one selling sandwich is:tukey, pepperjack cheese, and chipotle mayo on flat bread. The team then decided to change to Cheddar cheese, and call their inspiration the "Champ Sandwich".

This proved to be another brilliant marketing strategy, since you already know you are starting with a hit sandwich. Team Hydra then simply had to market Lennox Lewis to a New York City street crowd. Not too difficult in a city full of boxing fans!

Trace Atkins and Stephen Baldwin had a tougher time with face recognition in a New York City crowd. As Trace said later in the Board Room, "...if this were in Nashville, I'd be the only one left standing!" Everyone in the Board Room agreed with Trace.

As things turned out, Team Hydra won again, with 313 Quizno's sandwich sales to Team Empressario's 253 Quzno's sandwich sales. Winning $25 thousand dollars for Lennox Lewis' charity The Mahamed Ali Foundation.

Team Empressario was forced into The Donald's Board Room, where the toughest decision (emotionally) had to be made. Trace Atkins, though the Project Manager on this task, has consistently brought in money on every task. Stephen Baldwin has yet to bring in any money to speak of, but he is good at visual marketing. They had one less player or it may have gone the other way.

At the end of the day (a term I hate, buy I think started on this show), Trace Atkins was the obvious fundraising choice. That is what Celebrity Apprentice is all about, knowing where the money is and how to get to it. Trace Atkins made it clear he was here for a higher purpose, his daughter has a severe food allergy and this is the charity he plays for. He wants to bring attention to the issue. Trace brings more than attention to the cause, he brings class (and I had never heard of him before this show).

Donald Trump finally said the words, "Stephen Baldwin, you're FIRED".
